        It was a beautiful day, as they stood in front of each other in Pennsylvania in an alleyway.

        “Is that what I am to you? A means of survival?” he asked her.

        “Of course, you’re not a means of survival. You looked out for me when I had no one. You’ve given me a second chance now, when no one else will.” She rested a hand on the side of his face. “I love you. Elijah.”

        He turned his head away and she put her hand down.

        “You don’t believe me,” she stated.

        He looked at her. “I want to. It’s my disease. I just keep wanting to believe you, but how can I when, at every turn, you give me a reason to doubt you? I don’t know you. I don’t think I ever will.”

        He began to walk away.

        She stood there for a moment, thinking about what he’d just said, before catching up with him and putting a hand on his arm.

        “Wait.”

        He looked at her hand on his arm and then her a couple times, so she let go of him, getting the hint. Then he looked at her.

        “Goodbye, Katherine.”

        She could only watch, as he walked away.





        That night, she found him and went to stand in front of him, where he was on a sidewalk.

        “What do you want?”

        “To tell you that you’re right. I’ve spent so much time running and lying just to survive, I—I’m starting to believe my own lies. I don’t even remember who I was when we first met. And I want to find out.” She took a box out of her purse.

        “You have the cure,” he stated.

        “Yes. And I can shove this down Klaus’ throat and try to kill him, but even if I managed to do it, I’d lose you. And I don’t want to happen.” She set the vial of the cure in his hand and put his empty hand on top of the hand that held the cure, with her hands around his. “I want you to trust me. I need you to trust me. Just like I’m trusting you.” She took her hands away. “You don’t owe me anything. I’m going to let you decide where we go from here.”

        He watched, as she walked away and then looked down at the cure in his hand.

        Later that night, Elijah stood in front of her at the Mikaelson place in Mystic Falls. He loved her, but he couldn’t trust someone that would lie to him like she had today. He hated what he was about to do. He’d promised to protect her all those centuries ago, but he was so tired of figuring out if she was telling the truth or not. He was about to do the one thing that he hated to do to her. He had to leave to go help Klaus in New Orleans. He couldn’t stay, and family always came first for him. He always had to sacrifice love for family, no matter what. He always stood by his family, because of their vow centuries ago. Always and forever.

        “It’s our turn, Elijah. Please,” she pleaded, when he’d told her that he was leaving to go help Klaus out.

        “Katerina.” He rested a hand on the side of her face, and then took it away and kissed her on the forehead. “Goodbye, Katerina.” Then he was gone.



*Human Once Again*

        After Elijah left, her heart hurt and filled with anger, thinking that Elena had said something to Elijah in Pennsylvania when Elena’s humanity had been off, she ambushed her in the hallway of Mystic High. She then tried to kill Elena, but Elena shoved the cure down her throat, turning her human.

           



        After the summer was over with, Katherine decided to go to her ex. He may have left her for Klaus yet again, but they didn’t need to trust each other for him to protect her from danger. Plus, having an Original on your side was usually a bonus. She needed him now more than ever, and figured that he’d protect her, no matter what. Besides, whether he left her or not, even if he didn’t love her, she still loved him. If their positions were reversed, she knew she’d do the same for him. So, she was going to go to Elijah for protection.

        After driving a car into New Orleans she’d hot-wired, she’d gotten into a wreck with a streetlight pole. So, now she sat in the driver’s side of the car, injured, everything going black. She was in pain, but it was starting to fade, as everything began to go black for her.





        Elijah was walking, having left the bar after a few drinks, heading home, when, in a desolate area of New Orleans, he smelled the familiar mixed scents. He stopped in his tracks, smelling the scents of Katerina, blood, and human. Then, making up his mind and curious of why she was in town, he followed the scent trail.





        Half an hour later, he found the source of what he was smelling. She was in a wrecked car, obviously injured, and it was apparent to him that she was human now, which he knew meant that someone had shoved the cure down her throat. He knew how much she’d loved being a vampire. He also knew her so well that he knew that being human was like a curse on her.

        He blurred to the driver’s side and forced the jammed door open.

        “Katerina.”

        He scanned for what her injuries were, hoping she wasn’t too injured. He saw that there was a shard of glass stabbed into her thigh, which had opened up the artery in her leg. Her abdomen and lower stomach were also bleeding from a shard of glass, and there was blood on either side of her head. He also saw that she’d lost a lot of blood, since she was so pale with slow breathing. He pulled the shard of glass out of her lower stomach and tossed it to the floorboard, but didn’t bother with the other two. He figured the only reason she was still alive, was because the shards of glass were keeping her from quickly bleeding out. Careful of her injuries, he gently pulled her into his arms and then blurred home. Rebekah had been a nurse back in the day, so he figured that she could save her. He didn’t want to try vampire blood. No one had taken the cure before, so they didn’t know if there was any side effects to it. Also, there wasn’t a working hospital, due to Mikael in 1918, so he couldn’t take her to one. Rebekah was his only choice.





        Once at the compound, he blurred her to a guest bedroom and onto a bed, gently laying her down, before calling for Rebekah. Then, after some convincing, she began to do what she could for Katherine, despite hating her for being able to run from Nik for 500 years, escaping him. She didn’t like that she didn’t get to get away from Nik, but Katherine had been able to. That didn’t mean she wanted Elijah to lose the love of his life, though. Besides, after the life she’d led as a vampire, she knew Katherine didn’t deserve to die from a mere car crash. So, she decided to save her life the best of her ability.





        Half an hour or so later, Rebekah succeeded in saving her life and tending to her wounds, so Elijah moved her to his room and gently layed her down on his bed. Then he sat on her bedside, waiting for her to come to, a hand on hers. After almost losing her tonight, he realized that he’d been wrong to leave her without a look back. If anything happened to her and he wasn’t there to save or try to save her, he’d never forgive himself. She was his world, despite the fact that he’d left her to her own. He’d thought that she’d be okay without him, but he knew now that he’d been wrong.





        In the end, after she woke up, they rekindled their relationship, getting back together, once again, and he promised that he’d protect her, since she clearly needed protection and someone to be around to make sure she didn’t hurt herself on accident again.

*Mystic Falls- Mikaelson Mansion*

        It was a dark night in the living room at the Mikaelson mansion, as Elijah stood in front of the love of his life who he had chased for 500 years. She had asked him to decide where their relationship stood. He hadn’t decided, but he had to help Niklaus and was tired of all her lies and deceit.

        He rested a gentle hand on the side of her face, silently looking at her, before taking his hand away.

        “Goodbye, Katerina,” he said, choosing family over her, yet again.

        He lightly kissed her on the forehead, before walking away, knowing how much it hurt her for him to put his brother before her. He knew she understood that he was keeping the family vow that they had made 1,000 years ago though; “We stick together, always and forever.”

        It was a dark night, as he lay in bed at the cabin in the Bayou, suffering from Klaus’ bite, though it couldn’t kill him like it would a normal vampire. As far as he knew, he couldn’t die from Klaus’ bite, because of being an Original. Klaus had bitten him on the side of the neck in anger, because Elijah hadn’t believed Klaus, but had believed Tyler, when it came to his intentions for his unborn child.





        Meanwhile, a very human and dying of old age Katherine was on her way to New Orleans. She believed that though he had left her for Klaus, he wouldn’t turn her away in her time of need.

        The next night, after the symptoms had gone, he was met with a shock. Katerina he had left six or so month ago, now was dying of old age due to the cure being shoved down her throat. Now that he knew what was happening, he wouldn’t leave her. And if all possible, he would find a way to save her life.

        In the end, after Davina did a spell that reversed the rapid aging, they got back together. So all was well that ends well.

        It was a dismal night, as she stood in front of him.

        “What do you want?” he questioned.

        It was a nebulous night in New Orleans, as she lay on her back, injured, a distance from the wrecked car. She’d been able to get out, but that was all she could do. She knew she should fight, but she was human. Why try? Everyone seemed to think that Katherine being human meant they could push her around. Besides, she’d lost everything and everyone. Even Elijah had left six months ago. Yes, she’d come to New Orleans for his help, but if her accidentally crashing the car was a sign, she was doomed. So, why live? With those last thoughts, she closed her eyes.

        It was a beautiful day on the estate, as Katerina sat on a cement bench by Elijah, after they’d played chase. She didn’t know what existed at the time, but she spoke the wisest words to him.

        “If we cease to believe in love, then why would we want to live?”

        Elijah was heading home after a few drinks at the only bar in town, but when he smelled the mixed scents of blood, human, fire and Katerina, he blurred off to find her and soon saw the scene. Katerina was on the ground, human and injured, and had clearly gotten out of the wrecked car that was starting to catch fire, but being an injured human, that was all she could do.

        He blurred to and knelt beside her. “Katerina.” He rested a hand on the side of her face. “Katerina, can you hear me? I need you to open your eyes.” He scanned her injuries, and saw an opened artery in her thigh and her lower stomach was bleeding, along with blood on either side of her head. He looked at her again. “Stay with me, Katerina.”

        He got to his feet with her gently in his arms, and blurred to the hospital.

        Don’t leave me, Katerina. Please, he thought to himself.

        A few hours later, after she’d survived the surgery, Elijah was seated on her bedside, worried, a hand on hers, and his other hand on the side of her face. She’d lived through the surgery, but had a concussion. No one knew when she’d wake up.

        “If you can hear me, Katerina, I’m here now. I’m not leaving again. I’m here, no matter what. Please, Katerina. Open your eyes.”





        A few weeks later, she finally woke up, and she and Elijah rekindled their relationship.

        It was a beautiful day in an alleyway, as they half talked and half argued.

        “You killed Jeremy Gilbert,” he stated, before getting to his feet where he’d been crouching and thinking. He’d just found out that she’d lied to him.

        She stood in front of him.

        “Jeremy was collateral damage. I was doing what I had to do to survive,” she defended.

        “Is that what I am to you? A means of survival?”

        “No. Of course, you’re not a means of survival. You looked out for me when I had no one. You’ve given me a second chance now when no one else will.” She rested a gentle hand on the side of his face. “I love you. Elijah.”

        He turned his face away and she dropped her hand.

        “You don’t believe me.”

        “I want to,” he replied. “It’s my disease. I just keep wanting to believe you, but how can I when, at every turn, you give me a reason to doubt you? I don’t know you. I don’t think I ever will.”

        He began to walk away.

        She caught up with him and rested a hand on his arm, stopping him.

        She stood in front of him at the Mikaelson mansion. He’d just told her that he was leaving.

        “It’s our turn, Elijah. Please.”

        He kissed her on the forehead.

        Katherine had just finished feeding and sending a human on her way after compelling her to forget that she’d been fed on by a vampire, when she sensed someone.

        She turned around to see Elijah Mikaelson, the eldest of the siblings and the love of her life.

        “Elijah,” she greeted, but was wary. They were in love, but his brother was her greatest enemy who wanted her dead.

        “Katerina,” he greeted back, taking a step towards her to come out of the shadows.

        “What are you doing here?”

        “I had to see you. I can’t stay for long though.”

        A moment later, they were kissing.

        It was a nebulous night in New Orleans, as human Katherine sat in the wrecked car, injured. There was blood on either side of her head, a shard of glass was protruding from her lower stomach, her shoulder was dislocated, and another shard of glass was in the side of her neck. She could feel the pain from it and all her other injuries, but she was never one to show her pain unless it was Elijah there. She didn’t want to die, but knew she would. She knew she’d lost a lot of blood. Plus, her vision was going black quicker than she cared for. She couldn’t stay awake like she wanted; needed to. As everything went black for her though, and it became hard for her to breathe, she could vaguely hear a familiar voice.





        Elijah was walking down a desolate street, heading home, when he saw someone inside a wrecked car. He stopped, ready to go over to help whoever it was, when he smelled the familiar scent of Katerina mixed with the smell of blood and human which came as a shock to him. He’d never known her to even remotely want to be human again, nor be in the same town as Klaus.

        “Katerina?” he questioned, before blurring over to her side of the car.

        He used vamp strength to force the jammed door open which worked, and that’s when he saw her condition. He pulled the small shard of glass out of the side of her neck and tossed it to the floorboard, before resting gentle hands on either side of her head.

        “Katerina, can you hear me?” he called to her. He knew she was on the verge of critical condition, but if he could keep her from going to sleep long enough for him to get her to the hospital, he was sure that she’d be okay. “If you can hear me, open your eyes, Katerina. Don’t leave me. Please.” He gave her a gentle kiss, hoping it would work. He loved her, no matter what. He couldn’t live without her.

        After a few minutes of nothing, he slid an arm under her.

        A moment later, she barely opened her eyes to see him.

        “I’m so sorry, Katerina. I should’ve made sure you were okay.” He slid his other arm under her legs. “Stay with me. You’re gonna be okay. Just stay with me.” He knew it was hard for her to stay awake and that she was in pain, but he had to keep her breathing and this was the only way he could do so.

        Once he had her gently in his arms, he blurred towards the hospital.





        Elijah stood back so the doctors could take care of her and watched. He hated seeing her hurt, which was kind of ironic since he’d hurt her by leaving. Now he might not get the chance to apologize, much less have a second chance with her. They were taking her down the hall to try and save her life, but she was slipping through his fingers. He’d heard them say that she had some internal and external injuries along with a concussion and a collapsing lung. He didn’t need to be a doctor to know that she was dying. At the end of the day, it was up to her to decide whether to fight for her life or give up.

        Four hours later, he was seated in a chair by her bedside, his hand in hers. The surgery had went well, apart from losing her once during the surgery, but now no one knew if or when she would awake. He knew he should just let her go to take away whatever pain  she might be falling in her coma, but he couldn’t. Besides, it wouldn’t be fair to just pull the plug before she had a chance to fight for her life. She was Katherine; his Katerina. She would go down fighting with all she had.

        He looked at her, as he held her hand.

        “Oh, Katerina,” he said, and then gave a sigh. “What has happened to you?”

You took your suitcase, I took the blame

        He knew this was his fault that this had happened. He hadn’t looked out for her after breaking up with her. He had even gone so far as to ignore every single call she ever made to him. She could be dead by now for all he knew, and he wouldn’t know it unless he got a call.

        He rested a gentle hand on her forehead and kissed her hand.

        “Forgive me, Katerina. This is my fault.”

        While she was fighting for her life and slowly recovering, he stayed by her side, only leaving when he needed some blood, hoping that she would live. He couldn’t lose her. This couldn’t happen. If she ceased to exist, he couldn’t live anymore. They were the best parts of each other.



*Torture- 1692*

        After getting vervained, she groggily and very weakly woke up to some guys she didn’t know, who obviously had been waiting for her to wake up, one of whom had a rod in hand. The next thing she noticed was that her wrists were chained together with a long piece of chain that was connected to the ceiling of the basement.

        “What do you want?” she questioned weakly.

        “We need to know where the Original hybrid is,” one replied.

        “I’m not telling you anything. It’s best if I don’t. You’ll get yourselves killed,” she replied. Her other reason was to keep Elijah from danger.

           



        She didn’t know how long it went on for, them torturing her for information she wouldn’t tell them, her growing weaker from it. Their torture consisted of vervain, sunlight, stabbing her with a rod, and at one point was bitten.

        When she was weak, sweaty, and her vision was gray-blackish, she couldn’t quite hear what he’d said, but she could now see him killing them. Then, after some pain came from being stabbed with something for the last time, everything went black.

        After his killing spree of a few wolves and vampires, he blurred over to stand in front of her. She was already desiccating with a stake in her and he could see a wolf bite on the side of her neck.

        He pulled the stake out, tossing it to the floor, and gently lifted her head. He then used the vial of Klaus’ blood to cure her, saving her life, and her color began to return to normal. When that was done, he untied her from the chains and gently layed her down on the floor.

        When she began to awaken, it relieved him, knowing that she would be just fine now.

        He gave a smile.

        It was a beautiful day on the Mikaelson estate in England, as she and Elijah played chase.

        “You’re meant to catch me.”

        “Well, if I catch you, then the game will be over.”

        After she was awake and fully recovered, she was released and he temporarily took her home with him, but a week later, they moved together to a small town where they could both start over without constant supernatural issues or drama. In the end, they got back together.

        It was a nebulous night, as Elijah stood in front of her. He’d just told her that he was leaving town to help Klaus in New Orleans.

        “Please, Elijah. It’s our turn,” she pleaded with him.

        “Katerina.”

        He kissed her on the forehead.

        “Goodbye, Katerina.”

        She could only watch, as he left. She didn’t show it, but it hurt that he’d just left her for Klaus, yet again. This time, she knew that Elijah had given up on her redemption. She knew he’d lost his trust in her. She could only hope that he’d come back for her someday.

        It was a dark night, as Elijah returned to town, having heard what had happened between Katerina and Elena. He knew he had to come back, knowing that she most likely felt alone and was afraid. She had many enemies and she’d loved being a vampire. Being a vampire had been everything. She needed help and protection and he’d be glad to give it to her. He may have left, but he still loved her with his whole heart. If anything happened to her, those responsible would regret harming her in any way, shape, or form. He’d die for her if it ever came down to it.

        He stopped the car, seeing a wrecked car with her still in it, and blurred to her side of the car. He opened the door. There was some blood on the left side of her head and scratches in other places, but it looked like she’d be okay. She’d just blacked out was all.

        He gently picked her up in his arms and set her in the passenger seat of his car. Then he began driving back to New Orleans.

        It was a beautiful day, as Elijah and Katherine stood in front of each other in a Pennsylvania alleyway.

        “Is that what I am to you? A means of survival?” he accused.

        “No. Of course, you’re not a means of survival. You looked out for me when I had no one. You’ve given me a second chance now, when no one else will.” She rested a hand on the side of his face. “I love you. Elijah.”

        He turned his face away and she put her hand down.

        “You don’t believe me.”

        He looked at her.

        “I want to. It’s my disease. I just keep wanting to believe you, but how can I when, at every turn, you give me a reason to doubt you? I don’t know you. I don’t think I ever will.” He began to walk away.

        After a moment, she caught up with him and put a hand on his arm.

        “Wait.”

        He looked at her hand on his arm and then at her a couple times, which gave her the hint to let go, so she let go.

        “Goodbye, Katherine.”

        She could only watch, as he walked away.

        That night, they stood in front of each other on a sidewalk, when she found him.

        “Wait,” she said.

        “What do you want?”

        “To tell you that you’re right. I’ve spent so much time running and lying just to survive, I—I’m starting to believe my own lies. I don’t even remember who I was when we first met. And I want to find out,” she answered him.

        “How do I know this isn’t another lie? Katherine Pierce deceiving yet another man?” he questioned her.

        “Because I meant what I said about my feelings for you. And I’d like to think that you feel something for me too.” She brought the cure out of her purse.

        “You have the cure,” he stated.

        “I do. And I can shove this down Klaus’ throat and try to kill him, but even if I managed to do it, I’d lose you. And I don’t want to happen.” She set the cure in his hand. “I need you to trust me. I want you to trust me. Just like I’m trusting you. You don’t owe me anything. I’m going to let you decide where we go from here.”

        She turned and walked away.

        He watched, as she walked away, and then looked down at the cure in his hand.

        Later that night, they met at the Mikaelson place in Mystic Falls and he informed her that he was leaving town.

        He rested a hand on the side of her face.

        “It’s our turn, Elijah. Please,” she pleaded.

        “Katerina.” He kissed her on the forehead. “Goodbye, Katerina.”

        A moment later, he was gone.

        It was a dismal night, as Katherine sat in the passenger seat of the car which she’d accidentally crashed into a pole, injured badly. She’d caused the wreck when she’d tried to get as far away as she could from Silas. So now she was quite injured, trying to stay awake, which wasn’t working out for her very well. Everything was beginning to go black for her.

        Elijah had just returned to town to make sure that Katerina was okay, needing a break from the New Orleans drama and Klaus. So here he was. He was out searching for her and, after an hour of aimlessly walking around town trying to find her, he finally found her in a desolate area by the woods. She was in a wrecked car.

        “Katerina!”

        He blurred to her side of the car and forced the jammed door open. He then looked her over. There was blood on either side of her head and a shard of glass protruding from her lower stomach and another shard of glass in her thigh, which had opened up an artery. She was heavily bleeding and very pale. She was also human, which was a surprise, considering the last time he’d seen her, she’d been a vampire. He knew she loved being a vampire, which meant that someone must have shoved the cure down her throat. It was the only explanation he could come up with.

        He gently pulled her into his arms and out of the wreckage and blurred to the hospital.

        “Stay with me, Katerina,” he pleaded, though he didn’t know if she could hear him or not.

        Half an hour later, he was in the waiting room after watching them rush her down the hall to get her into surgery. He hoped that she’d be okay. It couldn’t end this way. Just because he’d left, didn’t mean he didn’t love her and care for her. He would always love and care for her.

        When she was in the recovery room a few hours after, he went and sat on her bedside, waiting for her to wake up, though she’d just gotten out of surgery.

        He rested a hand on the side of her face and another on her hand.

        “I’m so sorry, Katerina. I should’ve made sure you were okay,” he apologized, hoping she’d hear him.

        It was a dismal night, as Katherine stood in front of Elijah.

        “What do you want?” he said, his tone saying he didn’t want to talk to her.

        “To tell you that you’re right. I spent so much time running and lying just to survive that I don’t—I’m starting to believe my own lies. I don’t even remember who I was when we first met. And I don’t want to find out.” She took a black box out of her purse.

        “You have the cure,” he stated.

        “Yes, and I can shove this down Klaus’ throat and try to kill him, but even if I manage to do it, I’d lose you. And I don’t want that to happen.” She put the box in his hand. “I want you to trust me just like I’m trusting you. You don’t owe me anything. I’m going to let you decide where we go from here.”

        He watched, as she walked away, before looking down at the cure in his hand.

        It was a nebulous night, as a human Katherine sat in the driver’s seat in the wrecked car, injured. She’d been driving to wherever to keep distance between her and Damon. He’d tried having her go back to the boarding house to hand her over to Silas. She’d tried to run though and had rammed the car into a streetlight pole, wrecking the car and injuring herself.

        As she sat there, injured, she knew she was going to die if she didn’t get to the hospital, but she couldn’t go anywhere. Her human body didn’t want to go anywhere. Another reason was because she was too injured with blurred vision, as well as being stuck and in a lot of pain. She was stuck with what felt like a part of the car from the floorboard on her foot. It also felt like she had a sprained or fractured leg. She could feel her injured side, thigh, and possible dislocated shoulder. Plus she could feel blood on either side of her head and it felt as if she was losing a lot of blood.

        Elijah Mikaelson was driving through Mystic Falls looking for Katerina. He’d heard from Caroline what had happened, so he was staying in town to keep her safe. That was his plan. He would protect her with his life.

        When he saw the wrecked car and Katerina, he pulled over and once he got out, blurred to the wrecked car. When he had the door forced open, he could see that she was injured. There was blood on either side of her head, a shard of glass protruding from her side and in her thigh, and her thigh had an opened artery. It also looked like her shoulder was dislocated and her leg was possibly dislocated too.

        He rested a gentle hand on the right side of her head.

        “Katerina. Can you hear me, Katerina?” he called to her.

        After a moment of nothing, he took his hand away and once her leg was free and shards of glass were out, he gently picked her up in his arms and blurred to his SUV and opened the passenger’s door. He then gently sat her in the seat and closed the door, before getting back in and driving towards the hospital to save her life. He didn’t dare feed her vampire blood, not knowing if she could digest it.





        Half an hour later, she was rushed down the hospital hallway, as Elijah watched silently. He could only hope that she would live. He didn’t want him saying goodbye to her to be the last memory he had of her. It couldn’t end like this.





        Five hours later, after she survived surgery, he walked into her room and sat on her bedside, a hand on the left side of her face, waiting for her to come to.





        An hour later, she woke up to see Elijah seated on her bedside with his hand on the side of her face, his other hand on top of her right one. That let her know that he’d saved her and she was relieved about that, though he’d left six months ago.

        She smiled.

        “You came back.”

        He smiled.

        “Of course, I came back for you, Katerina. I’d do anything for you, no matter what.”

        “Well, thanks for saving my life. Are you staying?” she questioned, sitting up in bed.

        “I am. I’m here to protect you, no matter what happens from this moment on,” he informed her.

        She smiled at that and he smiled back.

Introduction



        You know how they say you’ll find “the one”? They say everyone has that one for them that will die for them any day. Well, not everyone gets to keep their soulmate. There were once two vampires who were completely in love. Elijah loved her so much that once, he betrayed his brother to save her life. She was the love of his life, but after running for 500 years, she changed into someone else. She was no longer the girl he fell in love with. She became Katherine, who others called evil, conniving, and a bitch. For 500 years, he had always been there for her, but when he got tired of not knowing her true intentions, he broke up with her. They didn’t see each other for a very long time, afterward. This is the story of Katerina Petrova, later Katherine Pierce, and Elijah Mikaelson. This is their story.         





        It was a dark night, as Katherine stood in front of Elijah at the Mikaelson place in Mystic Falls. He had just told her that he was leaving town to go help Klaus in New Orleans. He was technically breaking up with her and leaving her for his brother.

        “Elijah, it’s our turn. Please,” she begged him, trying to get him to stay.

        “Goodbye, Katerina,” he said, before kissing her on the forehead and vanishing.

        As she stood there, she knew now that he had lost all trust and faith in her. It was her fault for lying so many times, but she didn’t know how else to act. All she knew anymore was how to run and lie to survive. Now she was completely and utterly alone. It wasn’t just her fault, though. Elena Gilbert had said something to him back in Pennsylvania, when Elena’s humanity had been off. She just didn’t know what she had said to him.

           



        Later at the Mystic High, she ambushed her in a hallway, angry, and through her against a set of lockers.

        “What did you say to him to make him turn against me?” she growled.

        Elena got to her feet.

        “You ruined my life. I never got to have a graduation, or, well, a life,” Katherine continued, as she through her again.

        “I ruined your life? You killed my brother,” Elena growled, before throwing a locker door at her.

        Katherine through it aside with an arm, before it could hit her.

        “Okay. I’ll admit. That was nasty.”





        When she had beaten Elena up pretty good and she was on her back on the floor, Katherine dug a broken wooden mop handle in her throat, but before she could inch it towards her heart to kill her, Elena shoved the cure for vampirism down her throat.

        As Katherine lay on her back on the floor, out cold, Elena turned her head to look at her.

        “Have a nice human life, Katherine.”





        For an entire summer Katherine walked the streets alone, homeless, hungry, and not knowing what to do. But at the end of the summer, she let herself into the Salvatore boarding house and grabbed herself a shot glass of bourbon, slowly sipping it. She was tired of being afraid, running, and having no plan of action. She needed help, and Damon had once loved her the most.

        A few minutes later, he walked inside that night, closing the door behind himself, and walked into the living room.

        “Katherine.”

        “Hello, Damon.”

        “What are you doing here?”

        “I need your help. I have enemies. If word gets out that I’m human, I can’t protect myself. I’m weak and slow. Do you know what it’s like to run in heels? I have blisters, Damon.”

        “You’re miserable.”

        “Please, I’m a survivor,” she replied.

        He bit his wrist and held it out to her.

        “Drink up.”

        “No one’s taken the cure before. There’s a chance I might never wake up. And deep down in that Elena-loving heart of yours, there’s a part of you that doesn’t want me to die,” she reasoned.

        Seeing her point, he promised that he would protect her, but she drove off when he broke his promise. He was going to hand her over to Silas, so she sped out of Mystic Falls.

        Before she knew it, she was in New Orleans.





        Elijah was on his way home, when he smelled blood and a very familiar scent.





        Once by a desolate street, he saw a car that had obviously crashed into a streetlight pale. The car was all dented and crinkled, while the windows were all shattered.

        “Katerina!” he yelled, as he raced towards the wreck.

        Once at the driver’s side, he forced the door open and looked down at her. He could easily see that she was injured, what with the blood.

        “Katerina,” he said.

        He bit his wrist.

        “The cure did something to me. I can’t digest vampire blood,” she informed him weakly, as her vision blurred and dimmed.

        His wrist instantly healed and, as he gently pulled her into his arms, everything went black for her.

        With Katerina in his arms, he blurred towards the only working New Orleans hospital. Even though he left her a few months ago, he was determined not to lose his Katerina. She was his love of 500 years. He’d die before he let anything happen to his Katerina. She was the love of his life.





        An hour later, the doctors had taken care of her and he was seated on her bedside, waiting for her to wake up.

        He rested a hand on top of her right one.

        “Oh, Katerina,” he said, thankful he had been there to save her, but wishing he had been there for her earlier. She either took the cure, or someone had shoved it down her throat. He hadn’t been there, but he was now. Why hadn’t she called for his help? He would’ve come as soon as he knew what had happened. Just because he had broken up with her, didn’t mean he didn’t care about or love her anymore. He would always love her. She was one of those types of girls that you could never get over. A part of her would always be with him.





        When she woke up, she saw that she was in a hospital with Elijah seated on her bedside.

        She smiled.

        “Elijah.”

        He smiled back.

        “Welcome back, Katerina. What happened to you?”

        “I’ll give you the cliff notes,” she replied, before telling him everything.

        “Why didn’t you come to me sooner? I will always help you, no matter what. You know that,” he said, once she had finished.

        “Because we broke up. I didn’t think you would help me.”

        “I will always save you, Katerina. You are a part of me, always and forever.”

        They smiled and then kissed.

        They pulled away.

        “Let’s go home,” he said.

        She agreed, and he took her home with him to the plantation home he, Hayley, and his siblings were staying at until they could get their family home back from Marcel.





        A few weeks later, she had her full strength back. She even stayed there with them, though Elijah’s siblings and Hayley hated Kat being under the same roof as them.

        My name is Katherine Pierce, formerly known in Bulgaria as Katerina Petrova and I am a vampire. I was born into a wealthy Bulgaria family under the name of Katerina Petrova on June 5th, 1473 where I lived in a village like any human.

        In 1490, when I was seventeen years old, I became pregnant with an unknown man's baby. Because of that, my family disowned me for the shameful birth of an illegitimate daughter. I carried the child to term, but seconds after my daughter's birth, my father took her away, claiming it would be better for both of us if we never saw each other. You see, illegitimate children weren’t welcome in those days. I was devastated by this and tried to get my father to reconsider, saying, “Pa ‘pa, please!”, but as he walked away with her, he said, “No! You have disgraced this family!” I felt like my life had shattered. And to top it off, I was banished to England. There, I quickly learned to be English.

        In 1492, when I met Lord Elijah, Lord Niklaus, and Lord Trevor my life changed completely. After I met them, I thought they were gentlemen. Niklaus even kissed my hand. Trevor was the most polite, because he developed a crush on me.

        Later, I found out what his family is and that I was Klaus’ doppelganger. I ran from him, but Trevor found me in the woods. He told me to run to a cabin and tell her who had sent me. Rose let me in and compelled the old woman that owned the cabin, to bring me food and water. And after I had been fed and had had water, Rose locked me in one of the bedrooms. I took my dagger and cut my wrists, so I would die, instead of being brought to Klaus by Rose. But she smelled my blood and forced her blood down me. I gagged, and she went over to speak to Trevor. Trevor wanted me to live, but Rose was looking out for her and Trevor’s well-being. She told him that “whoever double crosses Klaus always ends up in his debt.” Trevor argued that he loved me. Then I saw a length of rope and hung myself.

        When I awoke, I was on the bed with an overwhelming hunger. I was in transition to become a vampire. I was so thirsty, and my feelings were heightened. Trevor asked me why I did it and told me he would’ve helped me escape. I told him that he would’ve helped me run.

        When Rose came at me with a stake to try and kill me, I pushed the old woman in front of me. Rose staked her, instead. The blood was so much that I couldn’t resist. So, I fed on the woman’s neck and tossed her to Rose. I apologized before fleeing.

        When I arrived back at my village in the latter months of 1492, I found all the villagers and my family dead; slaughtered. When I saw my ma’ ma’s body, I wept over her for what seemed like an hour. Then I ran from Bulgaria and stayed in England until I was banished after they found out what I am.

        In 1498, after escaping from Klaus, I returned to Bulgaria for my long-lost daughter whom was eight at the time. I searched every village and cottage that I could find but had no luck in finding her.

        When I came to America, I changed my name to Katherine Pierce and went to live in Mystic Falls, Virginia in 1864, where I told them that my parents were killed in a fire and I was an orphan. Mr. Giuseppe Salvatore, Stefan and Damon's father, took me in. So, I lived in the Salvatore boarding house and met Stefan. I fell in love with him, as he did with me. Then I met Damon after he came home from war to see his little brother. He had been fighting on the south side. Damon fell in love with me, as did I with him.

        Not long afterward, I told Damon and Stefan what I am. Because Stefan was so afraid of me, I compelled him not to be afraid of me. I couldn't have people in Mystic Falls knowing that I'm a vampire. And then Stefan made a big mistake by telling his father what I am. That led to the vampire raid. I was captured, but Damon and Stefan got me out. And then their father killed them, resulting in them waking up in transition.

        When they did awake, they saw the church fire and thought I was dead. But little did they know, I had a Lockwood on my side. George Lockwood helped me escape Mystic Falls in exchange for the moonstone that I still had in my possession. He helped me by helping me fake my own death.

        Throughout the centuries, I watched Damon and Stefan from a distance. I made sure they were safe.

        When I came back in 2009, I watched them from a distance. I wanted Stefan back. And then I saw the doppelganger. Elena Gilbert. I pretended to be Elena, which caused Damon and Stefan to go insane trying to figure out who was Elena and who was me at times. At the time, Stefan and Elena were together, but I wanted Stefan back. I felt like, in my absence, my doppelganger had taken him away from me. In the midst of trying to get back at Elena and trying to get Stefan back, I cut off John Gilbert's hands, turned Caroline Forbes, Liz Forbes' daughter and one of Elena's best friends, into a vampire, and other things I don't care to mention.

        In 2010, after Tyler Lockwood's Uncle Mason came to town, Mason and I worked together so I could get the moonstone back. But then Damon killed Mason when he found out that Mason was a spy for me. And then Tyler Lockwood and Caroline Forbes found out what one another are and, despite all odds, fell in love and stayed together. Then Tyler went through his very first transformation into a werewolf with the help of Caroline. And just so you know, John Gilbert was Elena's biological father, while Isobel was Elena's biological mother. Then, a little while later, John set a plan in motion to kill all vampires but didn't succeed. Elena, Alaric, Stefan, and Bonnie stopped him. John just couldn't see Elena's view point on vampires. All he saw was what he was taught from a young age; to destroy all vampires. Also, just so you know, Bonnie is Elena's other best friend and a Bennett descended witch.

        About a month later Elijah, Trevor, and Rose came to town. Elijah came on behalf of Klaus to collect his doppelganger, Elena Gilbert. Trevor and Rose took her hostage to take her to Elijah when he came. It was to get out of debt with Klaus for Trevor helping me when I was human. Elijah let Rose go but killed Trevor. The Salvatore brothers then came to Elena's rescue and took her home after staking Elijah. Obviously, that only killed him temporarily.

        When Klaus came to town, I quit with my games, so I could keep a low profile so that Klaus wouldn't kill me. I know I should've left town, but I didn't. I wanted to know what the hell Klaus was up to this time around. And then I found out that he was in town to find Elena Gilbert. He started trouble for us, all because he wanted to find Elena, so he could use her in the ritual to break the curse his mother, Esther, put upon him. And after the ritual, John gave up his life so that when Elena awoke, she would not become a vampire once so ever, since Damon force fed her his blood before the ritual, not trusting Elijah's elixir. But before he did, he left a note for Jeremy and Elena so that they would end on good terms. And after the ritual, Jules and Elena and Jeremy's Aunt Jenna were all dead. So, a few days later, they had a funeral for their Aunt Jenna.

        In 2011, we all attempted to kill Niklaus Mikaelson, but it didn't work, so I left town to save my own ass from being crushed by Klaus. So, I made my way to New York and stayed there for a while until Damon, vampire Elena without her humanity on, and Klaus' only sister Rebekah, came to New York in search of me since I had the cure for vampirism after awakening Silas and killing Elena's brother Jeremy Gilbert. But then I tricked them and handed the cure over to Elijah. I trust him with my life always and forever.

        When I arrived back in Mystic Falls, Virginia in 2012, Silas was messing with everyone's minds. He even got inside Klaus' head, making him think that he was dying with a piece of a White Oak stake still inside him. And then, around the time of Elena's graduation, I was mad at Bonnie for not giving me the cure back to me, so I took out on Elena and almost killed her. In order to survive, she forced the cure down my throat which made me human. And during this same time, the Originals left town, but before Elena and I had a face to face fight in the high school hallway, Elijah said his good-bye to me and kissed me on the cheek before he left to join Niklaus, his only living brother. Soon after, Rebekah followed to make sure Elijah was okay.

        At the end of 2012, I tried to commit suicide, but Stefan caught me before I could finish falling from the clock tower in Mystic Falls. And that's when I finally told him what happened to me. So, despite how much Damon has tried to keep his word that he would protect me from Silas, it will never work. Especially, when he actually fed me to Silas himself to bring Bonnie back to life. Now Bonnie is alive and so is Jeremy. And no matter how much I try, I will never be able to defeat or stop time from killing me faster than normal. I am rapidly dying of old age each day.         Katherine stood in front of Elijah that night on a sidewalk. She needed to earn his trust back, she knew, so she knew one thing that could help give her some points. 

        "What do you want?" he asked, irritated.

        "To tell you that you're right. I've spent so much time running and lying just to survive that I—I'm starting to believe my own lies. I don't even remember who I was when we first met. And I want to find out." She took the cure out of her purse.

        "You have the cure."

        "Yes, and I can shove this down Klaus' throat and try to kill him, but even if I managed to do it, I'd lose you. And I don't want that to happen." She set it in his hand. "I need you to trust me. I want you to trust me. Just like I'm trusting you. You don't owe me anything. I'm going to let you decide where we go from here."

        He silently watched, as she walked away.

        It was a dark night, as a human Katherine Pierce spoke to Nadia over the phone. 

        "I'm Katherine Pierce. I survive." She hung up after that but then, a moment later, she dropped the bag that was over her shoulder and phone, feeling a pain travel up her arm and towards her chest. She put a hand on her chest, and then everything went black.

        Katherine was on a bed with doctors trying to revive her after her heart attack, as Caroline called Elijah, knowing how much he cared about her, and probably still loved her. She knew it sucked to die alone, and she wanted Elijah to know what was happening to her. The doctors didn't think she'd make it, so Caroline thought that it would be best that Elijah know so he could come say goodbye, or maybe even find a way to save her life. Katherine deserved to have someone with her that cared about her.

        A few hours later, Elijah was seated on her bedside, having been informed by Caroline what all had happened to her. Katerina had been revived after about twenty minutes, but she wasn't out of danger quite yet. The doctors didn't think she'd make it through the night, but he knew better. She was a fighter, human or not. She'd make it through. He could only hope, though. Knowing what was happening, he wished that he had stayed, or at least asked her to come with him, instead of leaving her. Maybe if he had stayed, or asked her to come with him, maybe she never would have gotten the cure shoved down her throat. Maybe she'd still be a vampire and very much alive, instead of here in the hospital, fighting for her life, because he wasn't there when she needed him to stay. 

        He rested a hand on one of hers, and his other one on the side of her face, as he waited for her to awaken. 

        "I'm here, Katerina. You're not alone," he said, though he didn't know if she could hear him or not. 





        A few days later, she woke up, and she and Elijah got back together again.

        It was a beautiful day, as a human Katherine lay in bed, dying of old age. She was lost in memories, as she lay there. She felt like she was ready to die though. After the life she’d led as a vampire, it was only right for it to finally be her time. Besides, there was no way out. She couldn’t be fixed, because time was finally catching up with her and she would be going where she knew she deserved to go. She would either find peace on the Other Side, or she would be going in another direction due to all the sins she’d committed as a vampiress. She was fated not to live long as a human. If there was a way to stop it, she would, but she didn’t have a choice in the matter. Nadia would have to live the rest of her vampiress life without her and try to be happy, because Katherine knew that she would never get to spend a long enough life with her daughter.

        It was a dismal night, as Katerina Petrova stood by a table of food. She was soon introduced to Klaus and Elijah and gave a bow to both of them.

        “It’s a pleasure to meet you,” she said.

        “My pleasure,” Elijah replied.

        Klaus took her hand and kissed it. When she called him Niklaus, he said, “Please. That’s what my mother calls me. Call me Klaus.”

        She gave a smile at them both but was more intrigued with Elijah. She felt like she could trust him, even though they had only just met.

        She looked at him from within the tomb, when she saw him appear. She didn’t know what his intentions were, but she knew that half the time his loyalty was to Klaus, so she was indecisive whether she could trust him or not.         Elijah sensed what she was feeling and said to her, “I’m glad you have a good sense to be frightened, Katerina.”

        She watched for a moment, as he walked away, before catching up with him and putting a hand on his arm, stopping him.

        She got the hint and let go.

        She could only watch, as he walked away.

        It was a beautiful day on the Mikaelson estate, as Elijah and Katerina played chase. She stopped running and gave a laugh, saying, “You’re meant to catch me.”

        They gave a smile at each other, before going to sit on a cement bench.

        It was a beautiful day in an alley in New York, as they stood in front of each other, half arguing and half talking.

As she had told him, he didn’t even owe her anything. She was letting him choose where they stood with their relationship.

        That night, Elijah chose to follow Klaus to New Orleans, so he told her goodbye and kissed her on the forehead.

        After he had left, she was heartbroken and angry and, thinking Elena had said something to Elijah that had screwed everything up, Kat tried to kill her, but she got the cure shoved down her throat, turning her human.





        Six months later, she died and was taken somewhere that wasn’t the Other Side. It was a hellish prison world.

        It was a dismal night in New Orleans, as Elijah walked, heading for home after a few drinks. He was unhappy at Niklaus for everything but was staying due to the prophecy and Aurora. She hated Elijah for compelling her not to go with them back then but hated Klaus for moving on.

        He stopped, seeing a girl on the sidewalk. He hadn’t expected to see her in town as long as he and Klaus were here, nor had he expected her human. He knew she had to be human, smelling the blood.

        He blurred across the street towards her and knelt at her side. He rested gentle hands on either side of her head and scanned with his eyes for what her injuries were. She was very pale, as he did so.

        He gently picked her up in his arms and took her to the only working hospital, figuring she was human due to the cure, and not knowing if she could digest vampire blood.

        “I’m so sorry, Katerina. Forgive me. Stay with me, Katerina. Please,” he said, as he blurred towards the hospital.

        After the doctors had cared for her, he sat on her bedside, his hand in hers. He hated seeing her like this, but was thankful that she was at least alive, even if she wouldn’t be waking anytime soon. It would break him if he lost her of all people. He couldn’t let Aurora find out about her. She might use or kill her.

        “Katerina, I don’t know if you can hear me, but I’m here. I’m not leaving. I will never leave you again. I promise. I never should’ve left. I hope you can forgive me someday.”

        In the end, a few months after Klaus had disposed of Aurora by sealing her in the Garden, she woke up from her mild coma just fine, and she and Elijah got a second chance.

        He kissed her on the forehead and then blurred off, leaving her standing there, fighting emotions. He'd literally broken up with her, even though she'd tried to show him that she trusted and loved him, but he'd left, technically throwing it back in her face.

        Despite her efforts to stay awake, she couldn't. Her injuries were just too much, and she'd lost too much blood. Besides, she was so tired of running and fighting. 





        An hour later, Elijah was walking home, when he smelled blood and human, so he went to investigate.





        Ten minutes later, after seeing an SUV crashed into a pole and that someone was still inside, he blurred over and opened the door, only to see a very human Katerina. 

        "Katerina?" he said, shocked to see her human, but got over it in a moment, and rested a gentle hand on the side of her face. "Katerina, can you hear me? Katerina," he called to her. Please. Not you, too. Stay with me, Katerina, he thought to himself. 

        He scanned for the injuries she had that he could see. He saw a shard of glass in her thigh and below her lower stomach. Her thigh had an opened artery, and there was blood on either side of her head. She was way too pale from blood loss, and he could barely hear her breathing. He could tell that she'd been here for at least an hour. 

        He put her arm around his shoulders and gently picked her up in his arms, blurring towards the hospital. No matter what, he couldn't lose her, but he knew he was every passing minute, as he blurred towards the hospital. And even if this was partly her own fault or someone else's, it was also his fault. He'd left and hadn't even called to be sure she was alive, or even okay. He should've known that leaving was the worst thing he could do to her. 

        A few minutes later, he arrived at the hospital and, after they put an insulator breathing mask on her to keep her breathing, and got an ivy in her, he could only watch as she was rushed down the hall into surgery.

        As they cared for her, he paced in the waiting room, hoping for her to come through. She was a fighter, but she was human now. There was only a certain amount of time she could fight.

        It was a dark night, as Katerina Petrova knelt by her mother and cried. She didn't grieve for her father, but her mother was a different story. They had been very close. Now, she and the rest of her village were dead. She was foolish to think that she would be free as a vampire. She knew now that she would never be free.

        A few hours later, she was in a recovery room, Elijah seated on her bedside, one hand on top of hers, and the other resting on the side of her face. He'd been told that she'd be okay, now that she'd survived surgery, and the blood she'd lost had been restored. It was just a matter of her waking up. 

        "Forgive me, Katerina. Whatever has happened, partly your fault or not, this is at least partly my fault, too. I never should have left, least of all, without calling. I don't know what I'd do if I lost you. I'm right here, Katerina. I promise you, I will never leave you again."





        The next day, she woke up and they got back together.

        It was a dark night, as Katherine stood in front of her in a dark alley, wanting answers. She hated being in the dark. 

        "Who are you?" she asked the vampiress who seemed to know more about her than Katherine thought she knew her. 

        "My name is Nadia Petrova and you are my mother," she replied. 

        Katherine was shocked, having not been able to find her in Bulgaria in 1498. She was thrilled that she and Nadia had been reunited after so many centuries, though.

And as she lay there, Damon got inside her head where she was reliving the death of her family, grieving over her mother's body. He was in her head to try and torment her on her deathbed so she would feel more pain, just because he hated her and thought that she deserved it.

        It was a dark night in the boarding house after she had watched Nadia die from Tyler's werewolf bite, as she stood in front of everyone, not running or hiding, not caring whether she would die or not, since Nadia had been the only thing for her worth living for. 

        "So, who's going to kill the elusive Katherine Pierce?" she asked. 

        In the end, Stefan was the one who killed her, and Nadia found peace, but Katherine was taken somewhere after death by a black mass; hell being the possible location of where she was taken to.

        They say life sucks and then you die. They even say to enjoy all that life has to offer, and to endure the obstacles that life throws at you. There were three doppelgängers born in four total different centuries. They grew up and learned a different kind of hard life. They found out that truth and their lives completely changed. It was completely turned 180 degrees around. They suffered before two of them became vampires and one was killed. Even then, one had to keep running and hiding for survival. This is their story of love, sacrifice, survival, hardship, loss, betrayal, and tragedy.





        In the first century B.C in Ancient Greece, there lived a girl named Amara. She was the very first doppelganger and the very first immortal woman in the world, but was also the true love of the very first man by the name of Silas. Back during 1st century B.C., Amara fell deeply in love with a young, gifted and powerful warlock named Silas. Although Amara and Silas loved each other, their love was forbidden as Amara was the handmaiden to a powerful witch, Qetsiyah and Silas was engaged to be married to Qetsiyah, who was also in love with Silas. Silas' love for Amara was so powerful that it motivated him to wanting to live for eternity with her. However, in order to get help in order to create the spell of immortality, Silas told Quetsyiah that he wanted to spend forever with her but secretly, he intended to spend it with Amara. Believing that Silas wanted to be with her forever, Qetsiyah created the very first immortality spell out of love for Silas. Qetsiyah had made the immortality spell for she and Silas to consume on their wedding night. However, everything turned awry for Quetsyiah when she realized Silas had stolen the immortality elixir and had betrayed and abandoned her on their wedding night. Silas had made himself and Amara the first immortal beings. Enraged by Silas' betrayal, she tracked him down, and discovered he had given immortality to her handmaiden, Amara. Qetsiyah then created two doses of the cure for immortality as a "gift" for Silas and Amara. She cured Amara of her immortality and then killed her by slitting her throat and cutting her heart out. Silas found out what Quetsyiah had done and he was completely devastated. After Amara was killed, Quetsyiah lured Silas to an isolated island and entombed him in darkness, burying him with the second dose of the cure for immortality, hoping that Silas would take the cure, die a mortal death and cross over to The Other Side, which is a purgatory meant for supernatural beings after they die. Quetsyiah's motivation behind creating the Other Side was to prevent Silas from ever reuniting with Amara in death on the earth's metaphysical plane, which is the place where human souls go after they die. Therefore, Amara has been on the metaphysical plane alone and unable to be reunited with Silas, her true love, in death. When Amara became truly immortal, nature immediately had to restore the balance, meaning nature needed a version or mortal versions of Amara that could die. Thus, shadow selves, doppelgängers or a doppelgänger bloodline of Amara was created as a way to restore the balance. Amara is known as the progenitor of the Petrova doppelganger bloodline. She is also the earliest known ancestor of Tatia, Katherine, and Elena, all of whom are doppelgängers of her. Amara is an ancestor to all of the Petrova women.

        During the tenth century, there lived a girl by the name of Tatia Petrova whom had an unnamed child with an unnamed man. Shortly after that, she met Elijah and Niklaus Mikaelson. Every man wanted to be her suitor, but Elijah and Niklaus loved her the most. Little did they know, she was a doppelganger. She didn't know she was a doppelganger, either.

        One day Esther Mikaelson, Niklaus and Elijah's mother, also the wife of Mikael Mikaelson, saw their shared love for the doppelganger. Esther was a powerful witch and she sought to destroy her to keep her family together. She killed Tatia and used Tatia's blood and a dark magic spell to turn her children, husband, and herself into vampires. That was the end of Tatia.

        During the 15th century, Katerina Petrova was born into a wealthy Bulgarian family on June 5th, 1473. In 1490, when she was about 16 or 17 years of age, Katerina became pregnant by an unknown man, and her family disowned her for the shameful birth of an illegitimate daughter. She carried the child to term, but seconds after her daughter's birth, Katerina's father took the child away, claiming it would be better for both of them to never see one another. Katerina was devastated by this and was banished to England, where she quickly adjusted by becoming English. In 1492, she met Trevor, who introduced her to Lord Elijah, who in turn introduced her to his younger brother, Lord Niklaus. Katerina was attracted to Klaus until she found out what he was, and that he was planning on using her as a sacrifice to break The Hybrid Curse placed on him. She escaped with the help of Trevor, who had fallen in love with her. He led her pursuers astray and told her to go east, to a cottage in the woods where she would be safe. When she arrived at a cottage, Katerina met a vampire named Rose.

        When Rose found out that Katerina had escaped from Klaus with the Moonstone, she locked her in a room and told her that she would take her to Klaus as soon as the opportunity arose. Katerina tried to commit suicide by stabbing herself with a knife, saying she would rather die than go back to Klaus, but Rose force-fed her some of her blood to heal her. When Rose turned her back to confront Trevor, Katerina hung herself with a length of rope.

        Later, when Katerina woke up in transition, Trevor asked why she did it and claimed he would have helped her live. Katerina responded by saying that he would have been able to help her run and that running was never going to be enough. Rose then explained to Trevor that Katerina used him to escape and, knowing Klaus would find out their role in the escape, Rose attempted to kill Katerina with a stake. Katerina used the owner of the cabin as a shield, which resulted in her death. Katerina then gave in to her instincts and drained the little old lady, completing her transition into a vampire. She then threw the body towards Rose and Trevor and fled into the night.

        Katerina returned to Bulgaria in the latter months of 1492 to find her entire family brutally slaughtered by Klaus. She knew he had done it as revenge for her escaping and subsequently transitioning. She was last seen weeping over her mother's dead body.

        Some time during 1498, Katherine returned to Bulgaria after escaping from Klaus. Katherine searched every village and cottage for her daughter, Nadia Petrova, who was eight at the time, but found no luck in finding her.

        In 1864, 372 years later, she arrived in Mystic Falls, Virginia with the name of Katherine Pierce, presumably to avoid detection by Klaus. At some point she had become friends with Pearl and her daughter, Anna, and she saved the life of the witch Emily Bennett, putting Emily in her debt. Emily forged her a special piece of jewelry with the stone Lapis Lazuli which allowed her to walk in the sun without being burned. She was taken in by one of the town's founders, Giuseppe Salvatore, having spun a story about being orphaned by a fire that killed her family. Katherine met and fell in love with his youngest son Stefan Salvatore, though she quickly began a physical relationship with Stefan's older brother, Damon, as well. Katherine created quite a few vampires while living in Mystic Falls, which inevitably alerted the Founding Families to their existence. Pearl warned Katherine that the town knew about the vampires after discovering an elixir containing vervain, which Honoria Fell had asked to be sold at the apothecary. Pearl tried to convince her to leave, but Katherine refused, claiming she had a plan in motion. Her plan, it turned out, was to turn Stefan and Damon into vampires, having seduced them both during her stay at the Salvatore household.

        Noticing how quickly the Founder's Council would take action against the vampires, Katherine struck a deal with George Lockwood: she would give him the moonstone if he would help her fake her death. Eventually, Stefan unwittingly suggested to his father that he knew a vampire, and Giuseppe guessed Katherine's true identity. Giuseppe spiked Stefan's drink with vervain and, later that same night, Katherine bit him. She was incapacitated by the vervain in his bloodstream, and, hearing the commotion, Giuseppe burst in to take her away. Damon later went to rescue her, and Stefan, upset that he had hurt his brother and jeopardized Katherine's life, helped him in the effort. They were both killed trying to save her, shot by their own father, Giuseppe, who was ashamed his sons had succumbed to the wiles of a demon.

        Katherine and the other vampires were taken to Fell's Church to be destroyed, but George helped Katherine escape. She gave George the moonstone but instead of leaving right away, she turned to see Damon and Stefan's bodies lying in the road. She ran to Stefan, kissed him, and promised they would be together again someday. After transitioning into a vampire, Damon was told by Emily that Katherine was trapped in the tomb beneath the church, and as a result, the older Salvatore never stopped loving Katherine as he awaited the day he would be able to rescue her. In reality, Katherine was still lying low to evade Klaus, and she kept a close eye on the younger Salvatore brother, pointing out that she had seen him in the front row of a concert in the 1980s to prove that she'd always been watching over him.

        In the 1920's, Katherine was in Chicago at the same time as Stefan, but she only observed him from afar. After a police raid cleared out the speakeasy, Katherine spotted Rebekah's necklace on the ground. She moved to pick it up, but ran away before Stefan could see or notice her. She watched him for a few moments before slipping into the shadows.

        During the 1970's, Katherine employed the talents of the vampire Will, who owned the music club and bar, Billy's, and ran an identity theft ring that secured new identities for vampires. Damon, who was friends with Will and helped him by killing people to steal their ID cards, unwittingly helped Katherine in her mission to remain undetected.

        When Katherine learned of the escape of the Tomb vampires, she gave her descendant and friend, Isobel, a Lapis Lazuli medallion, enabling the young vampire to walk in the sun. Katherine needed the tomb vampires dead because she didn't want Klaus to find out she was still alive, so she had Isobel retrieve Jonathan Gilbert's invention and give it to John Gilbert to use against the vampires in Mystic Falls. This resulted in the deaths of the remaining tomb vampires.

        In the twenty-first century there was a human that looked like Katherine, excluding the straight hair (Katherine had curly), and her clothes (Katherine's look was kind of slutty), named Elena Gilbert. She had a mom, dad, and younger brother named Jeremy. Her best friends were Caroline Forbes, Tyler Lockwood, Vicki Donovan, and Bonnie Bennett.

        One summer, she and Matt Donovan broke up, but later went back to being best friends.

        Not long after, she met Damon Salvatore while she waited for her parents to pick her up. He compelled her to forget that they ever met, though. Her parents picked her up and later that night, her parents’ car went off the Whickery bridge into the water.

        When Stefan Salvatore came to the rescue, her father insisted for him to save his daughter first. So he saved her, but Elena and Jeremy's parents didn't make it.

        When the next semester of high school came around, Elena and Jeremy's Aunt Jenna Sommers moved into the house to care for them and Elena met Stefan.

        Not long afterward, she met Damon and fell in love with Stefan.

        During the school year, she found out what really existed, but she and Stefan made their relationship work.

        Afterward, Bonnie learned that she was a witch descended from Emily Bennett. Then Katherine Pierce came to town.

        In the beginning, Katherine played as Elena and turned Caroline into a vampire. She drove Damon and Stefan insane. They wanted Katherine dead. And when Elena and Jeremy's Uncle John whom was later found to be Elena's biological father came to town, she used a knife to cut some of his fingers off which landed him in the hospital. Then, after Vicki bit Elena on the shoulder and tried to bite Jeremy on Halloween night, Stefan staked Vicki which killed her.

        Soon after, Alaric Saltzman came to town and became the new History teacher. He was Isobel Flemming's husband from back in the day, but she had disappeared when a vampire, later known to be Damon, bit her and vanished with her. They never had children, but they wanted some someday. Isobel had been obsessed with vampires and wanted to find a real one. After she had disappeared, Alaric had learned everything he could about vampires and had become a Vampire Hunter. He was a Vampire Hunter that could never truly die, because Isobel had given him a ring before her disappearance, that brought him back to life if he died from anything supernatural.

        Later on, Alaric put aside wanting to kill Damon and became friends with Damon, Stefan, Elena, Bonnie, Caroline, and Jeremy. He even dated Jenna Sommers and looked out for Elena and Jeremy when Jenna and the others couldn't. Then Tyler became a werewolf and Sheriff Liz Forbes found out that her only child, Caroline Forbes, was a vampire. Around the same time, Damon and the others found out that Isobel was Elena's biological mother. Isobel had put her up for adoption before she had become a vampire. Isobel's boyfriend that had made her pregnant had been Elena's Uncle John.

        Soon after, Pearl and Anna came to town and Anna met Jeremy. Anna and Jeremy fell in love and Pearl was killed by vampires in their home; John later killed Anna, since he found out that she was a vampire. Isobel then died willingly in the sun.

        When Klaus, a werewolf-vampire hybrid, came to town, Katherine helped the good guys find a way to try and take him down. Before they found out how to kill him though, he killed Jenna, a werewolf named Jules, and Elena. Because John sacrificed himself so Elena wouldn't become a vampire, Elena woke up human. Alaric then took over as Elena and Jeremy's guardian. During that time, Alaric started to date Meredith Fell, one of the doctors that worked at the hospital.

        Not long afterward, Tyler bit Damon. Because a werewolf's bite is deadly to vampires, Damon slowly started to die, so Stefan gave himself up to Klaus to save his brother's life. Klaus had Katherine bring the cure, Klaus' blood, to Damon. She did and he was saved, but it took a very long time for them to get Stefan back. Damon wanted to give up on him, but Elena never gave up hope. During this time, Caroline and Tyler fell in love even after they knew what one another was.

        After they tried to kill Klaus and Klaus killed Mikael, Katherine left so she wouldn't be crushed by him; in other words, be killed after 500 years of running and hiding from him. They never saw her in Mystic Falls again. Not very long after that, Stefan went back to being himself after Klaus released him from Klaus' compulsion. Then Klaus' family was undaggered and they were reunited. Klaus soon became obsessed with getting Elena's blood so he could make hybrids. Tyler was the first hybrid that he made.

        Sage, a vampiress, soon came to town and Damon used Rebekah and Sage for information. Rebekah found out though and went for revenge. She tortured him and then let him go. When Esther had all Originals, excluding herself, bound together as one, Stefan killed Finn and then Sage and Troy died because they were connected to Finn. The others weren't connected because Bonnie unconnected them when Klaus threatened to kill Jeremy.

        After Klaus kept putting Caroline in danger, Tyler finally broke the sire bond by willingly phasing werewolf a thousand times up in the Appalachians. Hayley, a werewolf, helped Tyler do so.

        After Rebekah ran Elena and Matt off the road because she thought Klaus was dead, and wanted Alaric dead (Esther had bound Elena to vampire Alaric) and vampire Alaric was dead, Elena woke up in transition and later became a vampire due to Damon's blood in her system when she had died. She had never wanted to be a vampire, but she dealt with it.

        When Connor, one of The Five, a different kind of Hunter, came to town after April's father had died, he used the Mystic Bar and Grille as a haven to keep April, Matt, and Jeremy hostage. It ended when Elena killed him, but they found out that whomever killed one of The Five would have hallucinations until the next one was awakened. They soon found out that Jeremy was the next one to be awakened, so they had him kill vampires that they could care less about. But it started to get so bad that he had almost killed his own sister. It took Bonnie and Stefan together as one to stop him from thinking about killing her.

        When Kol, one of Klaus' troublesome brothers, tried to hurt Jeremy and kill vampiress Elena, Jeremy and Elena worked together and killed him before Klaus could get to them in time to deal with his brother on his own terms.

        When Katherine killed Jeremy to get the cure for vampirism from Silas, it crushed Elena, so Damon had to use his sire bond to have Elena turn her humanity off. She did and she became a reckless vampiress. She didn't care except to get the cure from Katherine so it couldn't be used against her. Elijah intercepted Katherine and Katherine revealed to Elijah what she had done, but he had so much Faith that the innocent girl he had fallen for all those years ago was still inside her, that he still trusted her. She even gave Elijah the cure and Elijah went to Mystic Falls with Rebecca, his only sister.

        After Elijah and Rebekah returned to Mystic Falls with the cure, Elijah tested Rebekah to see if she really deserved to be human, while he kept the cure in his own possession. Rebekah almost made it through the night at the party that was held for fun, as well as the remembrance of Jeremy Gilbert, but then Elena, without her humanity on, attacked April Young, the daughter of a dead council member. If it hadn't been for Rebekah, April would've died at the fangs of Elena. But then, when Elena attacked her best friend, Bonnie Bennett, outside the building, Bonnie used her magic on Elena and nearly killed her, which frightened Elena so badly, that she practically begged for Damon to help her when he and Stefan found them. It took Stefan to get Bonnie to stop.

        After a while, they finally found a way to get Elena's humanity turned back on. Damon turned her humanity back on when he killed Matt Donovan, Elena's ex-boyfriend and friend, whom was wearing Ric's old ring, which meant that Matt would come back to life sooner or later. But it crushed Elena so much; it brought her humanity back on. And after all of that, it took Stefan for a while, and then Damon, to help her through it all. But in the end, she got over what she had done. And then Silas came to Mystic Falls and started messing with people's minds. They didn't even know why Silas had come to town, until after Klaus and Elijah left to go to New Orleans. Rebekah didn't automatically go with her brothers, because she had something in Mystic Falls. She had found love with Matt. The reason they found out that Silas was in town, was because Katherine was his number one goal. She was his number one goal to find, because he needed her blood, considering the cure had been shoved down her throat by Elena in the school hallway on Graduation night. Because the cure had been shoved down her throat, it made her human and so, the cure was still inside her.

        A few days later, Damon promised Katherine that he would protect her from Silas, but then he ended up handing her over to him. She fought over the wheel with Jeremy though and the car crashed and Jeremy almost died and Katherine got away. Then Silas found another way to find her and Katherine went back to hanging around Damon and Elena. Because they had a lead, the three of them went on a road trip to a bar where a vampire wanted Katherine. Then, after the vampiress escaped with Katherine, she kept Katherine safe from Silas. And in the meantime, the Salvatore brothers and Elena found out by Quetsyiah that Stefan is Silas' doppelganger and she could use Stefan and a spell to make Silas vulnerable. Qetsiyah did that and succeeded. Silas was no longer able to read minds. But then Silas learned how to use a GPS on a phone, which let him know where Katherine and the vampiress were at. Then, a little bit later, Katherine escaped after injuring the vampiress with a part of a cane, and later found her in a dark alley with the piece of cane still in her. And that's when she learned the true identity of the vampiress. The vampiress' name was “Nadia Petrova and you are my mother.” It shocked Katherine and she nursed Nadia back to herself again, before leaving her behind to go stay at the boarding house again.

        After they found a way to kill Silas with doppelganger blood and magic, Stefan finally was able to kill Silas himself. But because Qetsiyah was dying from the injuries Silas had inflicted upon her, the last spell she did was to make Bonnie the anchor to the Other Side. She didn't have enough strength left afterward to help Katherine so she wouldn't die of old age so quickly because of whatever the cure did to her. So she died and Bonnie became the anchor to the Other Side. And now it's very painful to Bonnie when something supernatural dies and has to pass through her to get to the Other Side.

        After Katherine came to college where Caroline and Elena were staying at, Katherine helped Caroline by making everyone think that Elena's not a vampire. And then she realized that her hair was turning gray and she lost a tooth. So, she did something she didn't want to do. She enlisted Dr. Wells, the professor at the college, to help her figure out how to cure her. She knew he knew about vampires, so she figured that he could help her out one way or another. He couldn't though, so she did something else that Katherine Pierce would never have done if she could help it. She left a note at the boarding house for Nadia and went to the clock tower in Mystic Falls where she jumped to commit suicide. But then Stefan found the note, found Katherine, and caught her before she could hit the sidewalk. And that's when she told him what was going on. He figured that writing her thoughts down in a journal would help, but she complained to him that it wasn't helping. And in the meantime, Caroline and Katherine helped Stefan overcome reliving his episode of drowning over and over again in a safe in the river that happened six months or so ago. It worked and afterward, Katherine and Stefan made love.

        Soon after, on her way to find a traveler to help her live longer, Katherine had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. Stefan told Nadia that he didn't think she would make it this time around. She made it through, only to die a few weeks later alongside her daughter. She never got to the Other Side though, because she was dragged into a black hole, when she tried to get to the Other Side. So, everyone assumes that she was taken to hell.
