Backstory:

Taeko was born in Utsunomiya, she was born with autism, and she often snapped under pressure, she was very defiant as a child, and her parents used to have to hit her multiple times in order to get her to shut up, since she never listened, they never sat down with her and talked to her, and she always hated them since they were always too busy to pay attention to her, and so she'd break things and be bad just to get attention from her parents, but they eventually got very violent with her, as they got to a point where she would cry and beg them to stop, she'd eventually listen after that. At school, she got bad grades, because she hated the teacher, who was like every other teacher, forceful with their students, and Taeko had autism, and so she was always lashing out at the teacher for being so forceful with her, she got really bad grades for that, and often got in trouble. Every time she'd come home, she'd get another bruise...Her parents hated when she wasn't the best that she could ever be, hence her given name, Taeko - in Japan the child's birth name affects who they will be, and Taeko just so happens to mean "many miracles", or in other cases, "perfect child". And so her parents were angry at her for not fulfilling her name's meaning. She was constantly feeling pain, she was always seen as a psychopath by her classmates, and she had no friends, she was constantly walking around, broken...Until one day - she saw a fashion show on TV, it was showcasing Lolita Fashion, she really liked it, she saw it as a flawless fashion, and seeing it made her happy, she also liked Gothic Things a lot, and was a big fan of European TV Shows, she even learned how to perfect a European Accent and so one day, she did it, she decided to run away from her parents, she was fourteen at the time, almost fifteen, she had saved up enough money from a part-time job to buy some things, and since she was almost fifteen, she was almost old enough to live alone, and so she decided to secretly buy some things, such as makeup, and different clothes along with jewelry and other things to make herself appear different and unique, she then waited a week until her birthday, November 23rd, she made an entire outfit of her own, and grabbed the last bit of her savings, along with some things in her bedroom, and packed for leaving before sunrise, she left the house, and got a place to stay, changed her name, and wrote her own character, said to be the perfect girl, she changed herself into this, she just had to change her appearance a lot, change her name, she even faked a voice and made a fake backstory for herself, while taking lots of inspiration from the European Culture, she made an entirely different person out of herself, she was very happy, she met a homeless cat on the way, and even made it her cat! But eventually...She started to have a dream, a dream that would make Celestia Ludenberg an important, special, and unique woman, she decided on the dream of living in a European Castle, like the fairy tales, since Taeko also dreamed of romance, she wanted male butlers from many countries to serve her as well, and so with that dream in mind, she quit her part-time job, after realizing that it wasn't the best way to get enough money for her dream, instead she decided to be a gambler, because winning always appealed to her, she tried it, she gambled with shady people, who made her bet particular things...However; in the end, she won a million times, people started spreading rumors about this so-called Celestia Ludenberg, and then she was quickly noticed by Hope's Peak Academy, an illustrious academy, the time she turned seventeen, her persona was complete, but she was still a depressed wreck inside...But now she can fake it, hide it, and conceal it. Pretend like nothing ever happened. She also got into Hope's Peak Academy.

How Do You Leave The One You Love? (Kalijah)

Summary: Set in S5. Based on the song “How Do You Leave The One You Love?”

*1492-Ball*

We’ve been down this road before

I can’t take it anymore

I have nothing left inside myself to give

Still every time I see your face

I’m falling back into that place

When everything to me feels like the first time

Katerina Petrova was at a ball, being introduced to Klaus and Elijah. Then, after she’d been introduced to Elijah, he was silent for a moment, which made her look at him.

“I’m sorry. You just remind me of someone,” he apologized.

        She did a curtsy.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

He took her hand as she curtsied and said, “The pleasure’s all mine.” Then, after she was introduced to Klaus, he kissed her hand, said something in Bulgarian that impressed her, and kissed her hand.

“Very good,” she said with a smile at him, once he’d said something in Bulgarian.

*American Gothic*

I want it to be possible

I’m hoping for a miracle

There has to be another way

I don’t want to face the truth

How do you leave the one you love?

How do you rise above it all?

Where do I find the strength to make it

Through tomorrow when you’re gone?

Kat stood in front of Elijah the night she’d given the cure to Elijah back in Pennsylvania. She’d given him a choice, letting him choose where their relationship stood after she’d lied for once to him. Now, they stood in front of each other at the Mikaelson house in Mystic Falls.

“Elijah, please. It’s our turn. Let us, you and I, go on our own little adventure,” she pleaded, realizing he was about to, again, choose Klaus over her.

“Katerina,” Elijah replied, putting a hand on the side of her face. Then she put a hand on his arm and, after a moment, even though it showed that he wanted to kiss her, he instead kissed her lightly on the forehead. Then he told her, “Goodbye.” Then, a moment later, he was gone, leaving her with a broken heart again.

*Dead Man On Campus*

And what do I tell myself tonight?

How can I ever make it right?

How do you leave?

How do you leave the one you love?

I’m so tired of being strong

I’m so afraid of being wrong

But I don’t want to live a lifetime with regrets

So I have to let you go

Walk away now even though

My heart is telling me it’s a mistake

But can I ever set you free?

You’ve been the very heart of me

There has to be another way

I don’t want to face the truth

It was a dismal night, as she stood on the clock tower in Mystic Falls. She was ready to end it all. Elijah had left and Elena had shoved the cure down her throat, making her human. Silas had drank the cure out of her. Now she was dying of old age at a rapid pace. She’d always been strong as a vampire, but as a human, she couldn’t help her emotions. And she didn’t want the pain of dying of old age. Especially, alone. Despite being reunited with her long-lost daughter, she felt alone without Elijah there. She knew he would always be one phone call away when he wasn’t daggered by Klaus, but she didn’t want to have to call him for help. Besides, it would probably be too late by then. She didn’t have that much time left. She was already getting gray hair. And everyone in this town either despised, hated, or wanted her dead. She was completely and utterly alone right now.

She closed her eyes, as she stepped towards the edge of the clock tower.

After a few moments of thinking of how she was going to jump off the clock tower, she had a feeling, which was always something she paid attention to. It was a feeling that she shouldn’t do this, despite how scared she was of dying. So, because of this feeling, she stopped and decided not to kill herself. She decided that there had to be another way. And despite everything, she decided that her best chance of surviving was New Orleans. Apart from Klaus, New Orleans was safe as long as Elijah was around. So, that’s what she did.

*New Orleans*

How do you leave the one you love?

How do you rise above it all?

Where do I find the strength to make it

Through tomorrow when you’re gone?

And what do I tell myself tonight?

How can I ever make it right?

How do you leave?

How do you leave the one you love?

I want it to be possible

I’m hoping for a miracle

There has to be another way

I don’t want to face the truth

It was a nebulous night in New Orleans, as Elijah left the only bar in town, on his way back home. He’d needed a couple drinks after everything that had happened. He would need many more too, but he wasn’t one to make himself drunk just because of grief, no matter how deep the grief was. He’d lost Klaus to The Hollow, since Klaus had wanted to keep everyone safe, including Hope. That was the price. Now, after everything, there wasn’t much left of the Mikaelsons. The bond, “always and forever,” eventually had broken their family apart. It had taken 1,000 plus years, but it had happened. Now, Elijah was dealing with the loss of Klaus and knew that he would soon lose Rebekah too, because she wanted to still take the cure. Hope hated him for Hayley’s death, so there wasn’t really a bond there between them. His family was apart now and, this time, he knew he couldn’t fix this. He just had to deal the best way he knew how. He didn’t know what to do without Klaus, though. He’d been so loyal to him throughout the centuries that he’d always sacrificed love in the name of family.

Elijah stopped in his tracks half an hour after leaving the bar, smelling the familiar scents of Katerina, human, and blood. He didn’t think she’d be here to cause any trouble, considering a human Katerina couldn’t do much, so he assumed she’d come to town for help. He assumed since the smell made it seem that she was human again, that someone had shoved the cure down her throat. She’d loved being a vampire, so being human again was like a curse on her.

After a moment of debating, he followed his heart for once in centuries, following the scent trail of her, which soon led to an SUV that had crashed into a tree. Seeing the scene, he hoped she was still alive and would be okay. He didn’t know what he’d do if she wasn’t around. They’d always been the best part of each other. And he hadn’t looked out for her all these centuries to fail her now.

        “Katerina!”

In an instant, he blurred to the wreck SUV and was at her side of the car. Then, with vamp strength, he forced the door to open, since it was jammed and dented in. Then he finally could look at the damage to see how bad it was.

How do you leave?

Where do I find the strength to make it

Through tomorrow when you’re gone?

And what do I tell myself tonight?

How can I ever make it right?

How do you leave?

How do you leave the one you love?

How do you leave?

How do you leave the one you love?

He rested a hand on the side of her face.

“Katerina, it’s me. Can you hear me?” he called, hoping to wake her up. When she didn’t wake up though, he knew what he had to do. He had to get her to Freya to be healed. He had to do it quick, because he knew he was going to lose her if he didn’t act soon.

He took his hand away from her face and then gently picked her up in his arms, before blurring to the compound.

Later that night, Freya healing her saved her life. Then, after she and Elijah had a talk, they fixed things between one another and Freya was able to reverse the aging. Elijah and Kat even got back together again.

Forever Love (Kalijah)

Summary: Set in Originals S5. When she comes back to life not long after Klaus and Elijah killed themselves, can she bring them back? If so, what will ensue? Will she and Elijah finally get their happy ending after all these centuries, despite him being in love with Hayley still? Based on Kodaline’s song “All I Want.”

A/N: Pretend that Originals don’t burn and disintegrate after being killed.

*Pennsylvania*

All I want is nothing more

To hear you knocking at my door

‘Cause if I could see your face once more

I could die a happy man I’m sure

When you said your last goodbye

I died a little bit inside

I lay in tears in bed all night

Alone without you by my side

But if you loved me

Why’d you leave me?

Take my body

Take my body

It was a beautiful day in an alleyway in Pennsylvania, as she stood there, watching Elijah walk away. After Elena has said something, she didn’t know what, to him, he seemed to not believe anything she said. Sure, she lied to people a lot, but mostly to survive. When it came to Elijah, she would never lie to him. And as she told him, she loved him. He was her first true love. She was upset and a little offended that Elijah would accuse her of having alternative motives. Her only motive was to get him to give the cure to Klaus, so she would finally be free of him hunting her down. However, she knew after what Elena had said and after she’d killed the last of Elena’s family, she had to earn his trust back. And she knew what to do to do that. She would give him the cure and let him know that it was his choice to choose what would transpire next between them. Deep down though, she was afraid that he would choose Klaus over her, because he was so family oriented. He always chose his family over her. She didn’t understand why he would sacrifice love over family, when all Klaus had done in the past was keep all his family members from having a life of their own by sticking them in coffins if they disappointed him. She wanted to keep Elijah, but she knew he was way too loyal to Klaus to stay when she wanted him to stay with her. Especially, when she knew he was conflicted right now.

All I want is

And all I need is

To find somebody

I’ll find somebody like you

Oh oh

So you brought out the best of me

A part of me I’ve never seen

You took my soul and wiped it clean

That night, she intercepted him on a sidewalk and told him that he was right. She’d been lying so long that she was starting to believe her own lies, but she wanted to remember who she used to be, since she didn’t remember who she used to be. She then gave him the cure and told him he didn’t owe her anything. Then she walked away.

*Mystic Falls*

Our love was made for movie screens

But if you loved me

Why’d you leave me?

Take my body

Take my body

All I want is

And all I need is

To find somebody

I’ll find somebody

Later that night, Katherine went to Mystic Falls to the Mikaelson mansion to find out what Elijah’s choice was. She’d left a note in the living room for Klaus, which meant he was leaving for New Orleans. All she needed now was for Elijah to stay. She’d lost so much. She’d lost pretty much everyone she loved. She didn’t want to lose Elijah. He was the reason mainly that she kept going. Without him, she probably would’ve given up or turned off her humanity centuries ago. Or she would’ve probably just ended her existence, tired so much of running from Klaus.

When Elijah showed up in front of her, since she knew him so well, she knew without words that he was going to follow Klaus in New Orleans. Since Kat was so afraid of him, that was somewhere she couldn’t go. Not while Klaus still had revenge on the mind when it came to her. Elijah could and would protect her from him, but Klaus would probably do unspeakable things as usual. And Klaus being a hybrid, Kat didn’t have much of a chance against him if it came down to a fight. One bite from Klaus and she was dead.

“Elijah, please. It’s our turn,” she pleaded with him.

He rested a hand on the side of his face. It seemed like he wanted to kiss her, but he didn’t. Instead, he just said, “Katerina,” and kissed her on the forehead. He then told her goodbye and, in an instant, was gone.

Kat stood there, upset. She knew it was partly her fault, but it was also partly Elena’s, she felt, so she enacted some revenge on her. She ambushed her in the school hallway and kicked her ass, demanding to know what Elena had said to him while her humanity had been off. Then, when Kat tried to kill her, Elena shoved the cure down her throat. Kat hadn’t known that Elena had the cure in her pocket, so it was unexpected.

Oh

If you loved me

Why’d you leave me?

Take my body

Take my body

All I want is

And all I need is

To find somebody

I’ll find somebody like you

Oh

When Kat woke up, she left town after stealing a vehicle. However, tired of looking over her shoulder, afraid that her enemies would find her and do whatever they wanted with her, she went back to Mystic Falls and asked for Damon’s protection. He’d once loved her the most, after all, and she still loved him. However, if she ever told him that, he’d think she was lying, since she’d lied to him before. Damon didn’t grant her protection though, and when Silas got inside his head, as she assumed he did, Damon tried handing her over to him, but she fled.

After the cure was out of her fully after Silas had fed on her, she came back to life and later, began aging. The plus side though, was her long-lost daughter, Nadia, found her, and they reconnected. And she finally understood Elijah’s blind loyalty and faith to Klaus. She’d do anything for Nadia, but then Tyler bit Nadia. She didn’t ask for the cure though, which she was mad at herself for, because she was so afraid of Klaus. Also, the other reason was that Nadia just wanted her to be happy and not give anything up just to save her. Kat would’ve switched positions if she could, but she couldn’t. She was new at the information that she was descended from Travelers. All she knew was how to body jump, which was why she was inside vampire Elena. She didn’t want to die. However, she knew she would die anyway, because they found out about what she did. So, in the end, she died from the Traveler knife and got swept away by a black mass. Then, the next thing she knew, she was in a prison world and had met Kai. When she refused to work with him to leave the prison world, she was tormented by him, but she survived. She found a way out of the prison world and left.

*Present Day*

As soon as she was out of the prison world and back in the real world, in her own human body, she knew exactly where she was. New Orleans. She had hoped for Mystic Falls. She didn’t know how long she’d been dead, so she looked for something that would tell her what the year was. And when she found a newspaper that told her the year, she knew that she’d been dead for a very long time. Before she’d died, she’d known about Klaus accidentally having a daughter with Hayley, though at the time, Hayley had still been pregnant. She’d known about it, because Sophie had always been a friend to her.

She walked around the French Quarter in hopes of finding out about what had happened. She didn’t know if Marcel was still alive, but she knew Marcel had attempted at getting rid of Klaus but hadn’t succeeded. She could only assume that Klaus had won. She knew Marcel, because she’d met him after Mikael had caused ruins throughout this city. She’d helped Marcel rebuild, but everything else had been his. She’d brought Klaus here, because she didn’t like what Marcel had done when it came to rules. She didn’t believe in killing witches just because they did magic. She also didn’t believe in banishing wolves to the bayou and putting a curse on them. However, after a century or two, she and Marcel had become enemies after she’d tried to make him change the rule about the witches but had failed. She’d also tried to get rid of the rule about not killing or feeding on locals and not killing vampires. She just hoped Marcel wouldn’t do anything drastic. Especially, when she was human. Although, during her time in the prison world, she’d learned how to make her Traveler magic active, so she could somewhat protect herself if she needed to.

After everything she’d learned from Sophie, she hoped nothing else had happened. If anything happened to Elijah or Klaus, since she’d forgiven Klaus finally for everything, she wouldn’t be happy. Sure, they were Originals, but she knew even Originals could get hurt and killed. And she knew that Klaus’ daughter was a teenager by now. She also knew that she was special.

After a while of walking through the streets of New Orleans, she spotted both Elijah and Klaus, but upon seeing the state of them, she knew they weren’t alive. Either she had to find a way to bring them back, she knew, or she had to go to a witch or a Mikaelson.

As she knelt by Elijah, she called one of the Mikaelsons she’d known off and on, assuming he was alive again. After all, all Mikaelsons tended to come back to life.

        “Hello, darlin’,” Kol greeted her.

“It’s been a long time, Kol. I’d love to chat like the good ol’ days, but I’m in the French Quarter. I need a witch, which I assume you have at your disposal, but first, what did I miss? I just escaped a prison world, only to end up here and find Elijah and Klaus both gone.”

“You’re right. I do have a witch. Nik had a daughter with a former werewolf turned hybrid, Hayley. Elijah fell for her and when she died for Hope, it was too much for Elijah. Nik did it to keep everyone safe from The Hollow.”

“Well, I’m not leaving them like that. We’ve always found loopholes before. Plus, I found out before I died that I’m descended from Travelers, so I have magic. And since I had to protect myself from Kai, I learned how to make my magic active.”

“Aren’t you full of surprises, darlin’. I’ll send Davina your way. See you soon.”

She thanked him and hung up, before looking at Elijah. Even dead, she assumed he could hear her.

"I don't know if you can hear me or not, but I need you to come back to me."

Half an hour later, Davina showed up where Katherine was knelt by the two Originals.

        Kat looked at her.

"You came. Let's get this done."

About twenty minutes later, Davina had brought them back and Kat had fed them her own blood.

Half an hour later, Davina had gone and Elijah and Klaus woke up.

"Katerina," Elijah greeted, once she'd helped him up.

"Elijah," she greeted back. Then she added, "Let's go home."

"Indeed," Klaus agreed with a smile.

After a week had passed, Kat had put The Hollow in a prison and she and Elijah had gotten back together. She and Klaus even became friends and she'd reconnected with Kol. So, so far, everything was great in New Orleans.

It was a beautiful day, as Kat walked through the French Quarter, not thinking Marcel would see her, but when she sensed a presence, she stopped. Then she turned around to see Marcel.

"Long time no see, Katherine," he said with a smile, though she knew he was only playing nice.

"Indeed, it has been, Marcel," she replied.

He put a hand on her arm.

"I think you know why I'm here," he replied, talking about why he'd found her.

"Yes. You're here for payback. Go ahead," she replied, knowing she couldn't really protect herself against a vampire. She also knew he wouldn't get his revenge fully, because she knew Elijah would tear his vampires apart if she was harmed.

        "Let's go."

She walked with him, letting him take her to wherever he planned to take her to.

Half an hour later, she was in a wooden chair tied with rope. Marcel had taken her to an abandoned warehouse.

Several hours later, Elijah found out what Marcel did, and went to the rescue. Then, after slaughtering Marcel's vampires and entering the warehouse, he found her.

In a blur, he was at her side. He then snapped the rope off her and rested a hand on either side of her face.

"Katerina? Can you hear me, Katerina?"

After a moment, taking a chance since he knew now what had happened years ago with the cure, he bit his wrist and made his blood go down her throat. Amazingly, it worked. He was happy at that, since this meant that she'd live.

A few days later, she was fully recovered, so they got their happy ending.

Don’t Leave Me Here Alone

It was a dismal night, as a human Kat appeared in town. She’d just escaped a prison world. She was glad, since she knew she had to help Elijah. Since she was descended from Travelers, which gave her magic, she’d been able to look at what was happening outside of the prison world. If she wasn’t too late, she knew she had to save him from himself. He wanted so badly to end his own suffering and be reunited with Hayley, but she couldn’t let that happened. She’d be miserable if she lost him.

She put the ascendant in her jacket pocket. She then looked around, seeing that she was in the town square. Then she saw him not far from a bench, on his back.

        She rushed to his side.

        “Elijah.”

She pulled the White Oak stake out of him. She wanted to break down, but she didn’t. She knew that wouldn’t help. Instead, she hovered her hands over his chest, concentrating on bringing him back to life.

“Come back to me, Elijah. You can’t leave me. I won’t let you. I still need you. You don’t get to die and leave me here alone.”

After a few minutes, she finished the spell. She then used a twig nearby to cut her wrist, and began to feed him her blood, needing to save him. She didn’t care if she died in the process. She’d die for him if she had to.

Elijah was in what appeared to be the woods. He could see Hayley in the distance. He was happy, having succeeded, and was about to join her at their campfire, but stopped. It was faint at first, but then it began to seem closer. He could hear Katerina. She was begging him to go back, saying she needed him and she wasn’t going to let him die.

“Come on. Guilt and grief isn’t reason enough to die. I need you to come back to me. Not just because I’m human again, but also because I can’t live without you. It would break me. I know miss her. I also know you blame yourself. Hayley died willingly to save her daughter, just as I would’ve done for Nadia. It’s not your fault. There’s nothing you could’ve done. Please. Come back to me. Drink,” he heard her add. That’s when he realized that she was right. He also realized that he’d made a mistake in abandoning her. He knew the way she spoke, she was telling the truth and also hurting. He realized that she’d told him the truth all those years ago. Maybe if he hadn’t completely abandoned her, maybe things would’ve turned out differently. And one thing he hated was hurting others. Especially, Katerina. With those realizations, he made up his mind. He turned away from where Hayley was, whom was having a time of her life with her deceased werewolf pack.

What felt like ten minutes later for him, he was back. He didn’t know how long it actually had been, but he could feel the familiar liquid go down his throat. That’s when he let go and looked at her. Then he realized that she’d fed him her own blood.

        “Katerina,” he greeted.

“Finally,” she greeted back, her wrist by her now, where she was still knelt by him. “Don’t do that to me ever again. Besides, you’re supposed to outlive me. Not the other way around.”

He sat up and rested a hand on the side of her face. Looking at her, he could see how much him dying had hurt her.

“I promise, I won’t leave you again,” he promised her. “How long was I out for?” he then questioned, seeing that it looked like she’d had to feed him quite a bit of her blood, in order to wake him up.

“Twenty minutes, but I’ll be fine.”

Later, her wound was taken care of, she helped him get through losing Hayley, and they got back together again.

The Destruction of The Hollow And Newfound Love

It was a dismal night, as a human Katherine appeared. She realized that she was in Mystic Falls. That was good. Maybe she could save Klaus and Elijah quicker. She put the ascendant away. She then started walking, looking for them. She hoped she wasn’t too late. After all, despite the past, she didn’t want anything to happened to either of them. And it wasn’t because she knew that Klaus had a daughter. She cared about them both, despite the fact that they’d both hurt her at different occasions. They were the kind of people that you couldn’t stop caring about or loving, once you cared about or loved them. Not only that, but if they died, so did the few vampires she cared about.

When she saw them on the ground, not far from a cement bench, she immediately rushed over to them. She was upset about seeing them like this, but she knew breaking down wouldn’t help, nor bring them back. She knew she could, though. She was descended from Travelers, after all. While she’d been in the prison world, she’d learned how to make her magic active. Plus, having to deal with witches for her entire vampiress life, she knew a few spells by heart. She knew exactly how to bring them back to life. She knew Klaus would most likely be the hardest one to bring back, since he was always so stubborn, so she decided that she’d start with him. She knew he’d also be angry with her for bringing him back, since she knew why he’d killed himself, but she didn’t care. She just wanted him back. Besides, she knew with her magic, she’d find a way to get The Hollow out of him and in some kind of prison.

She knelt by Klaus’ side. She then pulled the White Oak stake out of him and set it on the ground, before resting her hands where his heart was. Then she began the spell by memory.

A few minutes later, she stopped, seeing that the hybrid that she’d feared for 500 plus years and forgiven on her deathbed, was alive. That relieved her, but she knew she had one more job to do. She didn’t know how long they’d been like this, but she knew that he needed blood, as would Elijah. She knew Klaus had changed for the better, because of his daughter, Hope, so she assumed that she could trust Klaus.

Since she didn’t have anything sharp or fangs anymore, she used the next best thing. She used the end of the White Oak stake to cut her wrist. Then she put it back down and put it to Klaus’ lips, making her blood go down his throat, knowing it would work best in waking him up. Plus, he also needed it to get his strength back.

“Come on, Klaus. Drink. Come back to me. We may have never seen eye to eye, but I wouldn’t want you dead. Not anymore. I know you did it to keep others safe from The Hollow and get rid of it, but there’s always another way. You know that. Open your eyes. Don’t be stubborn. For once in your life, do what I tell you to do.”

Klaus was in what appeared to be some dark woods, but it didn’t seem to be any place bad. It just seemed to be late evening. He’d been walking around for a while now, and was by a river, when he began to hear Katerina’s voice. It seemed far away until the place he’d ended up in began to disappear. Then her voice began to sound closer. That’s when he realized what was going on. She brought him back and was trying to get him to wake up. He also realized that she was feeding him. He didn’t know how she was alive, but it didn’t really matter. She wanted him back, and probably Elijah, too. And she always got what she wanted, although he’d never gotten the chance to see her human the second time around. This time though, he would. He didn’t want to come back, but only because he didn’t want to be used by The Hollow to hurt those he cared about.

What felt like fifteen minutes later, he felt the familiar taste and drink from her, but let go after about ten minutes. Then he saw her and got up, as did she after he did.

“What did you do, Katerina?” he inquired, irritated, but not quite angry at her. He knew she always had a reason. He also knew how much she would always care about Elijah. The question was if Elijah still loved her back after Hayley.

“I had to bring you back. I don’t know what I’d do without either of you. Besides, I forgave you on my deathbed. Despite what Stefan thought on my deathbed, Damon was right. It was my fault. It took me being human and dying to learn to take responsibility.”

“Well, thank you for everything you’ve done then. And for your forgiveness. How are you alive though, Katerina? You’re supposed to be dead.”

“When I died, I ended up in a prison world. I just escaped it tonight.”

“And how did you bring me back?” he wanted to know.

“I’m descended from Travelers, so I used my magic. Enough about me, though. I need to bring Elijah back.”

“If you’re going to do that, you should know what happened. He may be harder to bring back. He thinks it’s his fault that Hayley’s dead, but I was there. She killed herself and Greta, a vampire, to save Hope. Elijah didn’t do anything to save her, because his memories were gone. He may not want to come back. Not even for you. All he wants is to be with her. I haven’t seen him like this since Celeste, a New Orleans former most powerful witch,” he informed her.

“Then you’re right,” she agreed. “He will be difficult to bring back. I just hope he won’t fight me too much,” she replied to the hybrid. She then knelt by Elijah and pulled the piece of White Oak out of her ex. Then she did the same that she had with Klaus.

“Come on, Elijah. Come back to me,” she said.

Elijah was in some dark woods. He saw Hayley at a campfire, hanging around with her pack, and he was about to join her, when he stopped. He could hear a faint voice. It was Katerina. She was asking him to go back. He was torn, though. He loved Hayley, but if she needed him, he would always be there for Katerina. And deep down, he would always love Katerina, even as he loved Hayley.

After a few minutes, he finally made his decision. He followed the sound of Katerina’s voice, turning away his opportunity to be reunited with Hayley.

When Elijah came back to the living world, he felt the familiar sensation and drank. After a few minutes though, he stopped. Then he saw Katerina.

He sat up and she helped him.

        “Katerina,” he greeted.

“I know you wanted to be with Hayley, but you don’t get to do that. Besides, it’s not your fault. You didn’t have your memories at the time. Besides, I don’t want either of you dead. Welcome back,” she replied, and got to her feet, in which he did as well.

Klaus stood a little ways behind her. There wasn’t much to say. She’d brought them back. Elijah just had to learn to move on and live.

“Thank you, Katerina,” was all Elijah could say.

Klaus and Kat watched, as Elijah left. Then Kat looked at Klaus.

“I think he’ll be fine in time. He just needs time and space. Now, I need to rest. Bringing two Originals back, and feeding you two, takes a lot.”

Klaus understood and suggested, “How about I get you to the compound.”

        She gave a smile.

        “I’d like that. Thanks.”

Suddenly, everything began to go black.

“Katerina,” Klaus said, instantly at her side, and caught her from hitting the ground. He then gently pulled her into his arms and blurred to the compound. He knew between feeding them and resurrecting them, it had taken its toll on her.

Klaus entered the compound and went to the table that wasn’t far from the stairs, laying her gently down on it.

“Freya!” he called. He couldn’t do much for her, but Freya could help her, and Rebekah could help save her. He knew she wasn’t doing well. He could hear her slow heart and shallow breathing and could see how pale she was from blood loss. And for some reason, he didn’t want her to die. "Stay with me, Katerina.”

Freya rushed down the stairs, only to see Klaus with Katherine, whom she’d known off and on throughout the centuries. Recognizing her, she rushed over.

        “What happened?”

“She resurrected and fed us. She’s lost a lot of blood,” he summarized.

“She needs a blood transfusion then. We need Rebekah.”

Freya healed her wrist. Then Rebekah came home.

        “Bloody hell?”

Klaus looked at her. He knew how much his youngest sister despised Katerina, but she was the only one that could save her. No one else knew how to do a blood transfusion.

“Rebekah, she needs a blood transfusion. She’s lost a lot of blood. We owe her. She brought us back. Please, sister.”

Rebekah was shocked at the news for a few minutes, before saying, “Fine. Get her upstairs.”

Klaus did as told, gently picking her up in his arms and blurring upstairs. He then layed her down in his bed.

While Klaus did his part, Rebekah got what was needed. She then entered her least favorite brother’s room and sat by the human, as she put an ivy in her and then began the blood transfusion, which finished an hour later.

Afterward, she unhooked her from everything and threw the empty blood bag away. She then told the hybrid, “She should be fine. If you need anything else, don’t ask. That was the only time I’m helping her.” She then left.

Klaus sat on her bedside, a hand on hers, his other one on the side of her face, waiting for her to wake up. It relieved him that she’d be okay now. She wouldn’t be dying anytime soon.

When Kat woke up, she saw in bed, Klaus on her bedside, with a hand on hers. She realized that Klaus had brought her to the compound and had gotten her saved. She also realized that he didn’t want anything to happen to her. He cared now, which was strange for them both. They’d never cared for one another before.

        “Feeling better, luv?” he inquired.

“Yes. Thanks. You saved my life.”

She gave a smile, and he smiled back.

“You’re welcome, luv. Anything for you. Besides, I owe you after what you did for us.”

“Well, we’re not the same people we once were,” she replied. She then added, “I think tomorrow we should start finding out how to get The Hollow into a prison. There has to be a way.”

“I couldn’t agree more, luv,” he agreed with her.

The next day, after getting to meet Hope, she worked with Hope and Freya to try and find a way to lock The Hollow up permanently forever, since destroying it wasn’t possible without killing someone.

Meanwhile, Klaus wasn’t in his right mind, his eyes glowing blue. He was in the New Orleans streets, about to approach someone. The Hollow was showing him Hope, knowing she was the one person he couldn’t lose. It was preying on his weaknesses, trying to break him; Make him into the monster everyone knew he was capable of being.

“No,” he said, trying to fight it.

“Yes. I can make you see whatever I want you to. I can make you do whatever I want you to do,” Hope’s image replied. Then it changed to his other weakness. Caroline. Then it said, “Come on. Aren’t you tired of playing the hero? I know what you’re capable of. I know you can be a monster when you put your mind to it. Don’t you want to be that version again? Don’t you want to feel that power again? See your victims and enemies fall? Be triumphant and enjoy their demise?”

The Original hybrid pinned who now looked like Katerina, to an alley wall.

“I won’t let you manipulate me,” he growled at The Hollow, as it changed its image to Cami.

“I’m only reminding you who you really are. Stop letting everyone tell you to be good. Let your demons control you like they used to. Be the fearless monster.” It then turned into Mikael’s image. “Be the abomination you’ve always been.”

After finding a way to dispose of The Hollow, Kat left the compound to find Klaus, hoping he hadn’t done any damage in the streets.

When she found her former enemy, he’d fed on a few people viciously. The Hollow was clearly beginning to get the upper hand. It was still influencing him, too. She knew it, when he pinned her to an alley wall and bit into the side of her neck.

“Klaus, it’s me. It’s just me,” she informed, not fighting him, since she knew it was futile.

After a few minutes, he suddenly realized what he’d both done and almost done. Realizing that, he let go and stepped back.

“Katerina,” he stated, his face back to normal, but knowing that there wasn’t any way to make up for something like this.

“It’s okay. You weren’t in control,” she assured him.

He looked at her with a face that said, ‘what have I done?’

“That doesn’t make it okay. I shouldn’t have,” he replied.

“All that matters is that you snapped out of it and stopped. There’s no need for apologies. Besides, we found a way to get The Hollow into a prison, where it’ll never be able to get out again. Let’s go home,” Kat replied and informed him.

He didn’t agree that there was no need for apologies, but he did go back to the compound with her. He was more than ready to get The Hollow out of himself. He wanted it away from Hope, too. She was his little girl, teenager or not. He’d die for her.

Once home, and after Rebekah had taken care of Katherine’s neck wound, Klaus stood in a circle as Kat, Freya, and Hope did a spell, which sent it to a created prison world. It worked, so Klaus was himself again.

Later that night, she and Klaus were in his room. After all that former hate they’d had, as well as after they’d saved and helped each other, they’d more than grown on one another. They’d realized that this was much more. They loved each other. And so, knowing that, they turned to a brand new, fresh page, and began to make out.

True Love Always Finds A Way (Kalijah)

It was a dismal night in Mystic Falls, as Klaus stood in a circle, stake in hand, and got ready to kill himself. The Hollow was inside him again.

“Don’t, brother,” Elijah pleaded, standing out the circle.

Suddenly, ascendant in hand, a human Katherine appeared outside the circle after escaping a prison world, scathed. She’d been able to see from there, things that had transpired. Now, standing in the present, behind Klaus, she knew it was true.

She magically through the stake outside of the circle and walked around the circle, outside of it still, where they could both see her.

“Elijah’s right. You can’t do that. Your daughter needs you. I’m not letting you die. Or Elijah. You’re probably wondering where I came from.” She looked at Klaus. “Long story cut short. After Elena shoved the cure down my throat when I was an idiot and tried to kill her, figuring she was part of the reason Elijah left, my daughter whom was a vampire apparently by choice, whom my father tore away at birth, Nadia, found me, I began again, body jumped into Elena after Nadia told me that I’m descended from Travelers, and when everyone found out, I got killed by Stefan. I wound up in Hell, became queen of it, and after some turn of events, I got killed again by Stefan to save this town. Then I ended up in a prison world, human, until I found this ascendant. Now, it’s noble of you to die for your daughter. I would’ve done the same for Nadia. But there’s always a loophole. Hope deserves to have her father, when she can’t have her mother. Nadia spent her entire life searching for me, because she had questions and needed answers. I won’t let Hope be an orphan like Nadia was. She deserves better. There’s always a way.” She looked at Elijah. “I may have been in a prison world, but I looked in at time. I know what happened and I’m sorry.” She looked at Klaus. “You have all lost too much, but this isn’t the way. I can create a prison for it. It won’t get out, whether something happens to me or not,” she said. Then, without asking for permission, she magically took The Hollow out of Klaus and shoved it into a prison. Then she sealed it up and concealed it.

Klaus got to his feet when it was over.

        “Thank you, Katerina.”

“Yeah, well, you’re not the monster you once were. Now go. Be with Hope and go get the girl.”

He gave a smile, knowing what she meant. Then he was gone.

She looked at Elijah who looked at her.

“I know you blame yourself. It’s not your fault. Hayley’s death wasn’t your fault. Besides, she died a noble death. She died to save her daughter’s life. I know that’s one of the reasons you were ready to die, but that’s not reason enough to go. Some of us still need you here. I don’t think Hope would’ve gotten this far without her family,” she assured him.

“She’s come quite a ways without me. She doesn’t need me. Besides, I haven’t seen you in years. I didn’t know you needed me. You never called.”

“Maybe so, but only because she had to. You didn’t have your memories. But now she has her family intact. The only question is what you’re going to do now.”

She began to approach. She’d been hiding her injuries with a cloaking spell, but now that it was just her and Elijah, she didn’t hide them. Besides, she knew she couldn’t do it for much longer. She’d been through hell in the prison world.

Elijah noticed that something was wrong. He may have left and, though he loved and missed Hayley, he did and would always love Katerina. If she was in peril, he’d save her in an instant.

He blurred to her side, seeing how injured she was, and caught her from hitting the ground.

As everything blurred from blood loss and her opened thigh artery, she saw Elijah in her field of vision, and saw him bite his wrist, as she felt herself in his arms. Knowing he didn’t know, she knew she had to tell him, so she did.

        “I can’t. I couldn’t digest it last time I was human.”

After she told him that, he knew there was only one thing to do. He had to get her to Freya. He couldn’t ask Hope, since tonight was the full moon.

“Stay with me, Katerina,” he pleaded, knowing he was starting to lose her. He then got to his feet with her gently in his arms.

As everything began to go black, she felt the win, letting her know that he was getting her somewhere to be taken care of.

Elijah entered the compound in a rush, a human and pale Katerina in his arms.

“Freya!” he yelled, as he gently layed her down on the table that wasn’t far from the stairs. He then used his jacket as a pillow for her head. “Don’t leave me, Katerina. Please,” he begged, hearing her heart slowing from all the blood loss, and he couldn’t hear her breathing.

Freya came downstairs to see the scene. Despite her injuries and all the blood loss, she recognized her and rushed over.

        “What happened?”

“She escaped a prison world,” he informed her.

Freya began to magically heal her.

Meanwhile, Katherine found herself in a place she didn’t know. It was dark, and it looked like the woods. Since it was unfamiliar, she walked around and, from a distance, saw Hayley having the time of her life with her wolf friends. Then, what felt like twenty minutes later, she heard some familiar voices. They sounded far away, but she didn’t know how to go ack, despite wanting to live. A part of her was tempted to stay, though. Dark or not, it was peaceful here.

“Come back to me, Katerina,” she vaguely heard Elijah say.

“Open your eyes, Katerina. Breathe. Breathe, Katerina,” she vaguely heard Klaus say.

“Didn’t expect to see you here,” she heard a familiar voice say behind her.

She turned around to look at him.

“I’m just visiting until Elijah and Klaus can get me back.”

“Then you need to go back,” Damon told her. Despite the last time she’d been alive, he didn’t want her dead for some reason.

“I don’t know how,” she admitted, as the distant voices continued.

“Concentrate,” he instructed her. “It’s not your time yet to find peace. You still have at least some people to live for.”

Freya watched them, Elijah trying to encourage her, and Klaus trying to revive her. She didn’t know what to do now. She’d healed her wounds, but Katherine had lost too much blood. Those that could hear had heard her heart stop. Since she’d saved their family, Klaus was trying to revive her with heart compressions.

“Katerina, luv, now’s not the time to give up, sweetheart. Now breathe. Come back, sweetheart. Breathe,” Klaus called to her.

Kat did as Damon told her to. She closed her eyes and concentrated. She trusted Damon, after all. Plus, she wanted to live.

When Klaus heard her come back to life, he stopped and stepped back, letting Elijah take over. It was up to Elijah to take care of her now. Klaus then left the room to let them be alone.

Elijah rested a hand on the side of her face.

“Katerina, can you hear me?” he called.

When Kat woke up, she saw that she was alive, Klaus had gone, and she was on a table, Elijah at her side, a hand on the side of her face.

        She gave a smile.

        “Elijah.”

She sat up and he helped her to her feet.

“I thought I lost you, Katerina,” he stated.

“Well, I’m here now. I’m back and I don’t plan on dying anytime soon.”

“Good. I don’t know what I’d do if I ever lost you for good.”

They looked at each other. Then, it was such a moment that they kissed, which meant that all was forgiven. Now they would be getting back together.

Remember (Kalijah)

It was a dismal night at the empty club, as Elijah and Klaus stood in front of each other.

“We made a vow. Always and forever,” Klaus told him.

“You’re talking about someone else’s life,” Elijah replied.

“No! This is still your life! You have responsibilities! You can’t just abandon them for a fairytale playing piano in the French countryside!"

“Do you think I’m going to stand here and watch you destroy everything that I built here?” Elijah questioned him.

“You honestly think you have a choice?” Klaus questioned. He attempted to snap his neck, but Elijah through him across the room and Klaus landed on the floor after falling off a table. Klaus looked at him from the floor. “You have no idea the risk I’m taking simply being here. There are consequences to us being together. Don’t you see?”

“So, leave!” Elijah yelled at him.

“I would have never come if the circumstances weren’t dire,” Klaus replied to him.

“I don’t care. Your reasons don’t matter to me.”

“So, Hayley’s life isn’t worth saving? Hope’s life isn’t worth saving? Please, Elijah. Hayley is missing. Hayley. Even in your state, that name must mean something to you.”

“No more than the name Mikaelson,” Elijah told him.

Klaus pinned him to a table with a hand around his throat.

“We are your family! You love us. You love me."

Antoinette snuck up behind Klaus and temporarily killed him with a piece of wood through his heart, but he quickly recovered. They were in a back room when he appeared and after threatening Antoinette, told Elijah, “Please. I’m begging you, brother. You may not think you know me or Kol or Rebekah or Freya or Hope or even Hayley, but we are your family.” Klaus approached where they stood, standing in front of Elijah. “Everyone you love needs you now.”

“Everyone I love is right here,” Elijah insisted. “Don’t waste your breath. I know exactly who I am. See, I ran into Marcel Gerard a few years ago in New York City. Did he tell you about that? I didn’t recognize him of course, but he did say my name, and that was all I needed to learn about my former life. I don’t have all the memories, but I know about you. Rebekah, Kol, Freya, Hope, and even Hayley. And I don’t care about any of you.”

“You may have a wealth of knowledge at your disposal. Facts, figures, names and dates, but you lack all the feelings. The love and the loyalty. A thousand years of family!”

“Elijah Mikaelson spent everyday of his wretched life trying to save you from yourself. I mean, I can’t even imagine how miserable. From what I understand, that poor bastard was lucky to find even a moment of pleasure. That’s not me. That’s not who I am.” He turned around to look at Antoinette. “I love this life. I love it all. I love the quiet of the night. The taste of my prey when I embrace their true demise. I worship every single dawn I spend here. Here where I am truly, truly loved.”

“Such poetry, but it means nothing,” Klaus said. “Without family; without purpose. You were not unhappy. You were a king amongst men. We both were, standing shoulder to shoulder, through the ages. We had glorious times together. Please, Elijah.”

Before Elijah could say anything, a new voice spoke. She was human and had just escaped a prison world she’d ended up in after she’d died all those years ago. She’d overheard everything and was sad on the inside to hear him speak like that towards Klaus after so long of being at his side and being devoted.

“That’s not really true, Elijah,” she stated, and went to stand next to Klaus, not afraid of him. She then looked at Klaus. “I guess you thought you’d seen the last of me, didn’t you? Sorry to disappoint. I simply ended up in a prison world. Let me guess. Quite some amnesia?”

Klaus was for once in his life, happy to see her. At least he wasn’t alone, since it seemed that she was going to help him with Elijah.

“Quite. He let Marcel compel always and forever away seven years ago,” Klaus informed her.

“Well, I can fix that. I had a daughter too once. She and I reunited when I was dying of old age. Nadia told me that I’m descended from Travelers, so I learned a few things before I died and in the prison world, I learned some other things,” she informed him.

He was surprised at her confession but didn’t show it.

“Do what you must,” Klaus told her.

“Well, first things first,” she replied. She magically snapped Antoinette’s neck.

        “Who are you?” Elijah questioned.

“Someone that you will always love, no matter what. Not even Klaus could keep us apart for 500 years,” she replied. “I’m sorry that I have to do this, but it’s for your own good. You have to remember. Everything.”

She put her hands out towards him, using magic on him, reversing the compulsion on him. She hated that she had to hurt him, but it had to be done as quickly as possible. Klaus clearly needed Elijah immediately.

Half an hour later, she’d finished with undoing the compulsion. Being cautious, she approached him.

        “Elijah?”

He looked at her and then got to his feet.

“What have you done?” he questioned her.

“I’m not going to fight with you. You can be mad at me all you want, but Klaus clearly needs your help. Besides, Klaus and I buried the hatchet years ago. I don’t know what the hell you were up to but while I was dying of old age due to getting the cure shoved down my throat since I was an idiot to take my anger out on Elena, Klaus and Rebekah both knew. He never showed up, but neither did you. I needed you and you weren’t there to save me or even to say your last goodbyes. You could’ve at least called to make sure I was okay, but you never did. And before I died, I learned that I’m descended from Travelers, so I learned some magic along the way while I was looking for a way out of the prison world. Now, you can be angry at me, but right now, Klaus needs you and so do the others. I overheard your conversation. I may not have been a big fan of the wolf girl when I was a vampire, but after everything I went through all those years ago and everything in the prison world, I’ve changed. Just because you’re mad or you wanted to run off forever doesn’t give you the right to abandon the quest to find Hayley. I may be able to help find her, but if there’s anything supernatural that did something to her, then I won’t be able to help much. We need everyone to find her. Nadia spent her entire life motherless. I won’t let that happen to another child, although for me it was against my will. Now, what do you say we all go to New Orleans and find Hayley?” Kat replied to him.

She turned around and looked at Klaus.

“I’ll meet you two at the compound. I’m pretty sure you two have a lot to work out along the way and I don’t want to get between you two. Besides, I’m quite capable of finding my own way there.”

As she began to pass Klaus, he put a hand on her arm, stopping her, and she looked at him.

“Thank you, Katerina. I knew if anyone could get through to him, it would be you. You two always had a connection I never quite understood.”

        “You’re welcome,” she replied.

“You can come along with us. We’ll work out what we need to once we’re home.”

She gave a smile at that.

After Antoinette woke up and Elijah left her, the three of them went home to New Orleans. It didn’t take long for them to get home. Then, after filling everyone in, Kat searched around for where Hayley would be at, while Klaus took a car ride with Caroline to find Hope.

Kat was concentrating on doing a mental locator spell, as she walked through town, so she wasn’t paying much attention to her surroundings. Because she was concentrating too much on locating where Hayley was instead of what was happening, she didn’t realize that someone was behind her. Then she did realize when the person pinned her against a wall.

“Well, aren’t you a familiar face,” Greta commented.

“I get that a lot,” Katherine replied.

“You have no idea what you’ve done, do you? The Mikaelsons can’t be in the same place without eventually ruining this city.”

“Well, if you let me go, I can fix that.”

“I have a better idea. Looks like my plan has just changed course. We’re moving things up a few notches.”

Kat concentrated, and Greta’s hands began to smoke, making her let her go. Kat then kicked her away, but since Greta was a vampire, Kat couldn’t do too much to hurt her, and Greta retaliated on her by feeding on her, but she didn’t kill her.

When Katherine woke up, she was tied with rope to a wooden chair and saw a boy in the room with a girl whom had chains on her wrists and Hayley whom was chained herself. She could hear the girl and Hayley talking the boy down, as she adjusted her vision. She was weak from being fed on, but she wasn’t going to give up.

“This is going to be the only time I say this. Hayley is right. The only reason someone like your mother would want the wolf side of a person laid dormant would be so they can’t defend themselves. Your own mother played you. Now, rope tied to a chair or not, I’ve changed. I’m human but I’m also descended from Travelers, so I’ve got magic. I can get us out of here. I’m going to give you a choice, kid. Let Hayley and Hope go or else. I don’t want to hurt a kid, but if Hope or Hayley are harmed, someone’s going to pay the price. I’ve died before, so I’m not afraid to die. If you let them go, then I’ll stay behind. Nadia spent her entire life without me and then her vampire life searching for me until she found me years ago when I got the cure shoved down my throat. She was motherless because my father saw me as a no-good slut for following my heart instead of the rules of that time. I won’t let Hope be motherless too.”

“My mother wouldn’t do that,” the boy said, not wanting to believe it.

“Fine. You don’t want to believe either of us? Then how about you think about it?” she replied. Though tied, there was some slack, so she could use her hands when she used magic. She did some magic to knock him out. Then she pointed her hand towards Hayley doing magic to make the chains start melting.

When the chains were melted, and Hayley was free, Kat told them, “Klaus, Elijah, and Caroline are on a hunting trip to look for you two. They don’t know that I’ve been taken too but go. Before his mother shows up.”

        “Elijah?” Hayley asked her.

“Yes. I escaped a prison world and appeared when Klaus was trying to convince Elijah to come home with him. I undid the compulsion Marcel did on him, so he has all his memories. I don’t care what happens to me. You two have to go, though. I don’t want all of this to be for nothing.”

Hayley understood and got the chains off Hope. Then, when she was about to leave with Hope, Greta entered.

Kat watched the fight between Hayley and Greta. She didn’t know how long it had been since Greta had bitten her, but Greta hadn’t cared to heal Katherine, so she was still losing blood from the side of her neck. Watching the fight, her vision went blurry again. Then the door opened, and she could hear Klaus and Elijah join what was happening. She couldn’t stay awake for long though, because of the blood loss, and everything went black before the fight had ended.

After Klaus did his thing and killed Greta for everything, he disposed of her body and Hayley and Hope went home. While they all did that, Elijah was more concerned for his Katerina. Although he’d left her, he did still love her even as he loved Hayley. Katerina, he loved much more than Hayley though. Plus, Hayley didn’t need him. Katerina did. Katerina was only human. She couldn’t protect herself, magic or not.

Elijah blurred over to stand in front of her. Then he broke the ropes in two, freeing her, and gently picked her up out of the chair. He knelt on the floor with her in his arms and, with crook of arm supporting her head, he bit his wrist and put it to her lips, making his blood go down her throat. He hoped she could digest it. He didn’t know if she could drink vampire blood after what she said that she’d gone through after he’d left.

“Stay with me, Katerina,” he pleaded. “I won’t lose you again. Forgive me, Katerina. I’m so sorry.”

When the wound was healed and gone, he gently picked her up in his arms and went home with her.

When Katherine woke up, she saw that she was in bed with Elijah seated on her bedside.

She slowly sat up in bed and gave a smile.

        “You saved me.”

        He gave a smile back.

“Did you ever doubt that I would?”

“Well, to be honest, I wasn’t sure if I knew anymore.”

“I had every intention of coming back when I could. I’m sorry you went through that,” he replied, a hand on the side of her face.

“Well, I think New Orleans is a good place to start if you’d rather start over with us. I know you’ll never leave this city and I once called this city a short-term home until I left, while you guys were off doing things across the world.”

        “That would be marvelous, Katerina.”

It was such a moment, that they kissed, symbolizing that they were now back together again. This time for good.

You Raise Me Up (Kalijah)

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary

When troubles come and my heart burdened be

And I am still and wait here in the silence

Until you come, and sit awhile with me

It was a nebulous night, as a human Katherine lay on a road in a desolate area, on her back. She’d just appeared after dealing with Kai for so long in the prison world, she’d finally gotten the ascendant together and gotten out of there without Kai being able to tag along with her. Now she found herself in a desolate area of what looked to be New Orleans. She knew she should probably leave town or at least get somewhere safe, but she couldn’t. She’d lost a lot of blood and she knew it wasn’t a good thing to try going anywhere after losing a lot of blood, and when someone had shot you with an arrow and there was a dagger in your thigh artery, which was the only thing keeping you from bleeding out. That was why she didn’t go anywhere. That, and because she was so tired of running and tired because of the blood loss. She could only hope that someone with a good heart would find her before it was too late.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains

You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas

I am strong, when I am on your shoulders

You raise me up, to more than I can be

After everything that had happened between his family, himself, and Marcel, and since there was nothing here for him anymore, he was on his way to heading out of town but stopped when he smelled human blood. It wasn’t just any human though. He could smell Katerina. After everything had turned out well enough, Klaus had finally told Elijah what had happened to Katerina a few years ago, so Elijah was surprised that Katerina was alive and human, yet again. She’d died a human though, so he guessed it shouldn’t be too surprising. Once he smelled the human scent of Katerina as well as blood, he followed the scents, knowing that this meant that she was injured. If she needed help, no matter what, he wouldn’t leave her to die. He’d hate for anything to happen to her, though according to his brother, it was a little too late for that.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains

You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas

I am strong, when I am on your shoulders

You raise me up, to more than I can be

As soon as he saw her in the road, he blurred to her side and knelt beside her. He could tell that she’d lost a lot of blood. Seeing an arrow in her lower stomach, he pulled it out and tossed it to the ground. He didn’t dare feed her his blood, though he knew she was in bad condition. He knew that last time she’d been human, she couldn’t digest vampire blood. He didn’t have much of a choice. He had to get back home so Freya could heal her, since there weren’t any working hospitals in New Orleans, thanks to Mikael back in the day. Seeing the ascendant by her, he knew she’d come from a prison world, which he knew explained how she was alive and who had done this to her. He knew her well enough to know that she wouldn’t normally harm herself on purpose.

He rested a hand on the side of her face.

        “Can you hear me, Katerina?”

After a few minutes of nothing, he took his hand away.

He slid an arm under her, pulling her into his arms, and his other one under her legs. He then got to his feet and blurred home with her in his arms.

“Stay with me, Katerina,” he pleaded.

        Please, don’t leave me.

He didn’t want to lose her. He couldn’t bear the thought of never seeing her again.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains

You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas

I am strong, when I am on your shoulders

You raise me up, to more than I can be

After Elijah had summarized of who she was, Freya agreed to save her life.

As she layed on the table in the same room as Freya had used to make the ultimate weapon against Marcel, she was pale from her injuries and blood loss, as Freya used her magic to heal her, in order to try and save her life.

Elijah stood by her silently, a hand on the side of her face. Though he didn’t show it, he was afraid that she may not make it. She’d fought for her life for 500 years. How many times could she continue fighting, before she gave up? He’d left her when she’d pleaded for him to stay, leaving her to fend for herself, only for her to end up dead. After he’d left, she’d been completely on her own, and he’d had no knowledge of it. If he could do things over, he’d do things differently. He’d stay if he could change the past. He couldn’t change the past, though. He could only try and make things better.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains

You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas

I am strong, when I am on your shoulders

You raise me up, to more than I can be

You raise me up

To more than I

Can be…

After she got her healed, Elijah left New Orleans with her, her in the passenger seat and him driving. He wasn’t going to be staying in New Orleans. He hadn’t planned on being there forever when he’d first gone to go help Klaus. Besides, he had to keep Katerina safe from any enemies that came their way, whether they were after himself or her. He wasn’t going to leave her to the mercy or no mercy of New Orleans. Even though he’d left, he still loved her, and he always would no matter what.

About a month later, they had rekindled their relationship and started over, this time without Klaus to intervene.

How To Save A Life (Kalijah)

*American Gothic*

Step one, you say we need to talk

He walks, you say sit down, it’s just a talk

He smiles politely back at you

You stare politely right on through

Some sort of window to your right

As he goes left, and you stay right

Between the lines of fear and blame

You begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong?

I lost a friend

Somewhere along in bitterness

And I would have stayed up with you all night

Had I known how to save a life

It was a beautiful day, as Katherine and Elijah stood in front of each other in an alleyway in Pennsylvania.

“Is that what I am to you?” he accused her. “A means of survival?”

“Of course you’re not a means of survival. You looked out for me when I had no one. You’ve given me a second chance now, when no one else will.” She rested a hand on the side of his face. “I love you. Elijah.” He turned his face away and she put her hand down. “You don’t believe me.”

        He looked at her.

“I want to. It’s my disease. I just keep wanting to believe you, but how can I when, at every turn, you give me a reason to doubt you. I don’t know you. I don’t think I ever will.”

She silently watched, as he began to walk away, before catching up with him and put a hand on his arm, stopping him in his tracks.

        “Wait.”

He looked at her hand and then her a couple of times and she got the hint, so she let go.

        He looked at her.

        “Goodbye, Katherine.”

She silently watched, as he walked away, knowing that she’d lost his trust in her for lying to him. She’d broken their agreement they’d made centuries ago. It didn’t matter what she did so long as she never lied to him. Now she knew she needed to earn his trust back somehow.

Let him know that you know best

‘Cause after all, you do know best

Try to slip past his defense

Without granting innocence

Lay down a list of what is wrong

The things you’ve told him all along

And pray to God he hears you

And I pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong?

I lost a friend

Somewhere along in bitterness

And I would have stayed up with you all night

Had I known how to save a life

That night, she found him walking down a sidewalk. She stopped him by standing in front of him.

        “Wait.”

“What do you want?” he asked, though he wasn’t interested.

“To tell you that you’re right. I’ve spent so much time running and lying just to survive, I—I’m starting to believe my own lies. I don’t even remember who I was when we first met. And I want to find out.” She pulled out a box from her purse.

“You have the cure,” he stated.

“Yes. And I can shove this down Klaus’ throat and try to kill him, but even if I succeeded, I’d lose you. And I don’t want that to happen.” She set the cure in his hand. “I need you to trust me. I want you to trust me. Just like I’m trusting you. You don’t owe me anything. I’m going to let you decide where we go from here.”

He silently watched, as she walked away from him, before looking down at the cure in his hand.

*Mystic Falls-Mikaelson Mansion*

As he begins to raise his voice

You lower yours and grant him one last choice

Drive until you lose the road

Or break with the ones you’ve followed

He will do one of two things

He will admit to everything

Or he’ll say he’s just not the same

And you’ll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong?

I lost a friend

Somewhere along in bitterness

And I would have stayed up with you all night

Had I known how to save a life

It was a dismal night at the Mikaelson mansion, as Elijah stood in front of her, having just told her that he was choosing to leave town and follow Klaus to New Orleans. He believed that Klaus may need his help to take care of whatever witches were conspiring against him. Family always came first for him, whether he wanted to sacrifice his love or not. Because he felt like he had to cut ties, he was breaking up with her. Not just leaving town. He felt that this was the best thing for them, though he still loved her, and always would.

“It’s our turn, Elijah. Please,” she pleaded with him, trying to get him to reconsider, but it was obviously futile, knowing how much family meant to him.

“Katerina.” He kissed her on the forehead. “Goodbye, Katerina.” Then he was gone as quick as possible, needing to get away quickly, in case he changed his mind.

She stood there, looking at the space he’d once stood, heartbroken, yet again. He always did this to her, but this time, for some reason, it felt different, as if it was the last time she’d ever see of him. She hoped that that wasn’t true. She couldn’t bear to never see Elijah ever again. She loved him with her whole heart.

*Present Day- New Orleans*

Where did I go wrong?

I lost a friend

Somewhere along in bitterness

And I would have stayed up with you all night

Had I known how to save a life

How to save a life

How to save a life

It was a dismal night, as Katherine, human due to getting the cure shoved down her throat, sat in the driver’s seat in a nearly totaled car, very injured. She knew she should get out, but she was human and quite injured. She could feel blood on either side of her head, and there was a shard of glass protruding from her lower stomach, and there was another shard of glass stabbed into her thigh. Looking at it, she could tell that it had opened the artery in her thigh. She was in a lot of pain, but she’d never been one to express her pain, unless she was in the presence of Elijah during her pain. She knew she should stay awake, but it was difficult, since her vision was blurry and growing dim. She knew from this that she was probably going to die, and that she most likely had a concussion or worst. She hoped that someone would find her in time and save her life. She didn’t want to die, but as an injured human, there wasn’t much she could do.

Where did I go wrong?

I lost a friend

Somewhere along in bitterness

And I would have stayed up with you all night

Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong?

I lost a friend

Somewhere along in bitterness

And I would have stayed up with you all night

Had I known how to save a life

How to save a life

How to save a life

Elijah had just left the bar and was heading home, but on a desolate street, when he smelled the familiar scents he’d know anywhere, he stopped in his tracks. It confused him of why Katerina was in town, so he scanned the desolate area, only to see a nearly totaled car that was crashed into a pole with quite a lot of brute force.

He blurred to the driver’s side, only to find that Katerina was in there, human and injured.

        “Katerina.”

He forced the car door open, since it was jammed, and stepped towards her. There was quite a lot of blood, but considering he didn’t know how she was even human, he didn’t want to chance feeding her vampire blood, just in case she couldn’t digest it. She was very pale, too. Seeing the two shards of glass, he pulled them both out and tossed them on the floorboard. He then rested gentle hands on either side of her pale face.

“Katerina, it’s me. Can you hear me?”

He didn’t get anything from her.

He put her arm around his shoulders and slid one of his behind her. Then he slid his other arm under her legs, pulling her gently into his arms and out of the wreck.

“Stay with me, Katerina. Please,” he pleaded, hoping he wasn’t too late to save her. He knew now that he was wrong to leave her, but at least he was here now, when she needed him to save her after all these centuries.

He blurred to the compound, so he could ask Freya to heal her. Freya was his only other option, but he didn’t know if she’d make it. She was losing a lot more blood and was growing much more paler. He knew he was losing her, as he blurred home.

Half an hour later, he entered the compound.

“Freya!” he called, as he gently layed her down on the table and took his jacket off. He gently lifted her head and put his jacket there as a pillow for her head, before laying her head gently back down.

Freya came down the stairs quickly, assuming that something was wrong the way he’d yelled for her. She was right when she saw a very injured girl on the table. Though she didn’t know who this girl was, she could tell that he cared deeply for her; especially, after he requested for her to heal her. Freya did as told, though she could only go one or two at a time, so while she began to heal her thigh, Elijah used a towel to try and slow her lower stomach from bleeding.

As he tried to slow the bleeding with a hand on the towel, he rested a gentle hand on the side of her face.

“I’m right here, Katerina. Stay with me. I promise you. I will never leave you again,” he said, though he didn’t know if she could hear him or not, since she was getting so close to dying, because of the loss of blood.

Freya soon healed her thigh, so Elijah took the towel away and Freya began to heal her lower stomach.

Half an hour later, Freya finished healing all of her and Elijah gently picked her up in his arms, once he thanked Freya, and took Katerina to his room. He then layed her gently down in his bed and sat on her bedside, waiting for her to awaken. He rested a hand on the side of her face and another on top of her hand.

“I’m here, Katerina, and I’m not leaving again. No matter what has happened, you are not alone. I promise, I will not leave you again. You have my word on that,” he promised her, genuinely meaning every word. If anything had happened to her while he’d been here with his family, he’d never forgive himself. He shouldn’t have abandoned her or left her like he had, but he’d thought that she’d be okay without him. He knew now that he was wrong. No matter what went on, he was going to protect her as long as possible, even if that meant that he’d have to watch her grow old and die while he was still himself.

Phantomesque

A/N: Haylijah never happened in the series.

It was a dismal night, as Freya looked at the crystal that held Elijah’s spirit. It was cracking, which Hayley had just shown her. Freya knew that she had to do something and quick. Otherwise, it wouldn’t hold Elijah’s spirit and they’d lose him forever. She didn’t want to lose anymore of her family. She’d already lost her father, her brother Finn, and her mother. She couldn’t lose anyone else. She had to make sure Elijah’s mind was right, before she could put his spirit back in his body where it belonged.

Suddenly, she looked to see someone appear with what looked to be an ascendant. She didn’t know who she was, but she was injured. It seemed like the others knew who she was, though.

“Katherine?” Hayley inquired, shocked to see her. Especially, see her human.

        Klaus gave a smile.

“Well, well. Look who’s back from the dead.”

Katherine gave a smile at them, as well as the girl she assumed to be Klaus’ daughter and the witch she assumed to be a family member.

“Hello, Klaus. Hayley,” she greeted them. Then to Klaus, she said, “You didn’t think I’d stay dead, did you? I had an inkling you might’ve known I was dying, even if you didn’t show up.” She looked around to see that she was at the compound. “What am I doing here? What’s going on?”

“Well, I could wish, can’t I?” Klaus inquired of the part about her being dead.

“Elijah’s spirit is inside this crystal. I need to send someone in to make sure his mind is right, before I put him back in his body,” Freya informed her.

Katherine was crestfallen for a moment. She couldn’t believe that she was hearing that Elijah was dead. She was lucky that he was inside the crystal, though. Because he was in the crystal, she wasn’t upset very much.

“Send me in there. I know Elijah better than anyone here. I’ve seen the bad parts and good parts of him both. If he’s not in his right mind, I can put him in his right mind. It won’t take too long,” she volunteered. She looked at Klaus. “I’ll help get Elijah back, but first I just need a little something. I won’t survive the trip if my body out here is damaged. Do me a favor and help me out?”

He thought for a moment, before biting his wrist.

She drank from his wrist until she was healed. Then she pulled away and approached the magical circle.

After laying down as if she was going to sleep, Freya did a spell on her which sent her inside the crystal.

When Katherine found herself inside the crystal, she was in a hallway and everything was white, except for a few of the doors. She could hear happiness from behind one and yelling behind another. Behind a red door, she could hear a commotion, so that’s the one she went through.

When she entered the red door, she saw unspeakable horror, though it didn’t scare her. She’d done countless things herself, so she wasn’t afraid of any of it. Besides, Elijah would never intentionally hurt her. When she saw Elijah there though, he was a different version of the Elijah that she knew. That’s when she realized that this was the version that he’d been a very long time before they’d met. There was so much death, and he didn’t seem to even recognize her.

“Elijah?” she called to him, as he approached her, though it was like he didn’t recognize her, even though she knew that he did see her. “Elijah, it’s me. Wake up, Elijah.”

At first, Elijah didn’t recognize who she was. He only recognized that she was human. And so, he sank his fangs into the side of her neck, feeding. When she didn’t struggle against him like humans usually did though, something familiar sparked inside him.

“Elijah, you need to wake up. Please. It’s me,” she tried again.

After a few moments, Elijah let her go, realizing she wasn’t exactly part of a memory. She was here to help him, and he’d almost killed her. Something he’d never wished to do to her.

He stepped away from her, afraid he might hurt her again.

        “Katerina.”

“Welcome back, Elijah,” she replied. Then she walked out of the red door.

A few moments later, he joined her.

“I’m so sorry, Katerina. I didn’t mean to,” he apologized.

“It’s okay. You weren’t yourself,” she replied. “Now that you’re okay, it’s time for me to go back and for Freya to reunite you with your body. Oh, and next time, try not to get yourself killed.”

She vanished out of the crystal but didn’t quite wake up yet.

Hayley and Hope were upstairs now, but Klaus stayed just in case. Now Freya was in the other room, reuniting Elijah with his body. Klaus would’ve healed Katerina, since he saw that she’d been bitten, but Freya needed to unspell the circle first. Plus, he figured it was best that his brother save her life, since he was so good at that. Especially, when he had a suspicion that Elijah had been the one to bite her, while she’d been inside the crystal.

Klaus looked at Katerina from outside of the circle and hoped that she’d be okay. Although he’d spent a decade or so hunting her down, now that he had Hope to take care of, he wasn’t the same person he was back then. He’d somewhat changed. He didn’t want to see Katerina die. She didn’t deserve it. Even if it was Elijah’s fault for biting her. He figured Elijah didn’t mean to do it, though.

After Freya reunited Elijah with his body and after Elijah was awake, he left the room to go make sure Katerina was okay. So, after Freya unspelled the circle, he knelt by her and gently pulled her into his arms. He then bit his wrist and put it to her lips, making his blood go down her throat to save her life.

Afterward, she healed, which told him that she’d be okay. And so, in the end, they got back together. The Hollow was even defeated too, without the Mikaelsons having to become vessels for The Hollow.

Queen Death

A/N: Haylijah never happened in the series.

It was a beautiful day, when Elijah woke up in a spelled circle in a house. He’d been poisoned with the rosebush thorns the night before. The Hollow inside of Sofia, Marcel’s girlfriend, wanted to become flesh by killing him. Because the thorns had Marcel’s venom on them, it was lethal. All Elijah could do was wait for his siblings to save him. There wasn’t much he could do. He was dying. He was trying to fight, but he knew it was only a matter of time.

Meanwhile, Klaus found out that something had happened, when Hayley told him she hadn’t seen Elijah since the night before, so they worked together to figure out where he was. Freya tried a locator spell, but she found out that Elijah was cloaked by magic. She couldn’t magically find him. That’s when Klaus asked for Marcel’s assistance in finding his brother.

Katherine, human, suddenly appeared someplace which she realized to be New Orleans, ascendant in hand and injured from her time in the prison world. She knew where she was, since Elijah was there, in pain and misery, laying in a spelled circle. She then saw someone there, obviously the one whom had caused this. That angered her and made her fear for his life all at the same time. Despite her injuries, she didn’t let her weakness show.

“What the hell did you do to Elijah?” she said angrily, and magically pinned her against a wall. She then approached.

“If you aim to save his life, you can’t. The thorns have Marcel’s venom. Either way, he dies,” she informed her, and laughed at that. “After that, I’ll be unstoppable.”

        Katherine stopped her magic.

“No, you won’t. I didn’t come back to life to lose the love of my life. You won’t win. The Mikaelsons and I are never defeated. You’ll lose and go back to rock you crawled out from.” She magically snapped the girl’s neck. She then went to the circle and magically lifted the spell on the circle.

“Please, hold on, Elijah,” she pleaded.

Elijah heard her and then blurrily saw her, not sure if she was real or not, as everything began to go black.

Once the spell was broken, she got him out of the circle and on his back. Then she knelt beside him.

“Stay with me, Elijah. Don’t die on me.”

She hovered her hands above him, starting a spell. She didn’t know what she’d come back to life in the midst of, but she could still protect and save him. She could use magic to make sure no one could harm him and siphon the venom into herself. She’d rather die than for him to.

When Elijah woke up, he felt cured and saw a human and injured Katerina, letting him know that he hadn’t imagined it. He realized that she was somehow human with magic. She’d saved his life.

He knelt by her, a hand on the side of her face, as she lay on her back with stab wounds and an opened artery in her thigh. He also saw that she had and was still losing a lot of blood.

“Katerina, can you hear me? Katerina. Open your eyes, Katerina,” he called to her.

When she didn’t wake up or move, he gently pulled her into his arms and got to his feet. He didn’t know how she was human, so he didn’t want to chance feeding her vampire blood. He had one way to save her life. He had to get Freya to heal her.

Stay with me, Katerina. I can’t lose you. Keep fighting. Don’t die on me, he thought, as he blurred home to get Freya to save her life. He couldn’t lose her. Even after he broke up with her a few years ago, he still loved her. He always would. She was a piece of him and he was a piece of her. He could bare to lose her. He needed her to live. Besides, he hadn’t looked out for her for 500 years, just to lose her now to a simple human death. They were meant to be there for each other forever. He knew now that he’d made a mistake by leaving. Because of him leaving, she’d somehow become human and was now dying, because he hadn’t kept in contact to make sure she was okay. He had thought that she’d be okay on her own, just as always. He was wrong. Now, because of him, he may never have a chance with her again. He needed her to fight; stay strong. He couldn’t bare it if she died.

He entered the compound to see that Klaus, Hayley, and Freya had been working on trying to find out where Elijah was. Obviously, they didn’t need to do that anymore, though. Katerina had saved his life from The Hollow.

Klaus gave a smile, when he saw Katerina, but didn’t say anything. He should’ve known she wouldn’t stay dead. She was Katerina, after all. She always managed to either survive or come back, even when you thought that she was dead.

“What’s Katherine doing here?” Hayley questioned, confused of why Katherine would be in town.

“I need you to heal her, sister. She used to be a vampire, so I don’t know how she’s human. She did save my life, though.”

Freya didn’t know who this Katherine was, but she healed her anyway, once Elijah layed her down on the table.

Once she’d finished, she asked her brother, “How did she save your life?”

“I don’t know how, but I assume with magic. I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough. She overpowered The Hollow. I was out for the rest of it.”

A few minutes later, Katherine woke up.

Elijah helped her to her feet.

She let him and looked at him.

“You’re welcome,” she said to him, before he could say anything.

He rested a hand on the side of her face.

“What has happened to you, Katerina? Why are you here?"

“Don’t hate Klaus for this, but he knew that I was dying of old age due to Elena shoving the cure down my throat, but since you never showed up, I can only assume that he never told you. And I understand why he didn’t tell you. He needed you here at the time. I died of old age, because of how old I was as a vampire, and because Silas drained the cure out of me. Don’t blame yourself. There was nothing you could do, even if you were there. Besides, the best part out of all of it was that I got to be reunited with my daughter, Nadia. My father tore her from my arms, but I got a second chance. That is, until Tyler bit Nadia and I had to watch her die. Then I died. When I died, I ended up in a prison world and then when I escaped, that’s when I suddenly ended up there and kicked whoever it was that poisoned you with the rosebush and Marcel’s venom.”

“I’m so sorry, Katerina. I should’ve been there.”

“You couldn’t. It wouldn’t have been fair for you to have to watch me die.”

        Freya intervened.

“I’m glad you saved my brother, but how exactly did you manage to do that?”

        Katherine looked at her.

“I have magic. I’m descended from Travelers, so I was able to magically transfer what she did to him to me. I’m human. The venom and poison won’t harm me like it will vampires, apparently. Now, what I have I missed since I’ve been in that prison world?”

They caught her up and even told her everything they knew about The Hollow whom was inside Sofia.

Afterward, Kat offered to help them take her down.

“I can help put the end to The Hollow. One, she tried to kill Elijah and I won’t let that stand. Two, I’m quite powerful since I’m descended from Travelers. With the combination of my magic and Freya’s, we can destroy her, once and for all.”

They agreed with her and she and Freya searched for a way to stop her by going to Vincent to see if he knew how The Hollow was imprisoned last time. Once Vincent told them, Katherine knew what to do.

In the end, The Hollow was put to rest for good and Hope was safe, as well as everyone else.

Katherine sat in the living room, having a shot glass of bourbon, alone. Hope and Hayley had gone to bed.

Elijah entered the living room to join her, figuring she might be there.

        “Katerina,” he greeted her.

She looked at him, instead of the fire in the fireplace.

“There’s nothing to say, Elijah. You left. I died. Now I’m back.”

        He sat next to her.

“Thank you for helping us, Katerina. You saved our lives, including Hope’s. You almost died saving me. I may have left, but I had every intention of coming back for you. I had my family to look after, though. I couldn’t return until the time was right. Now, I believe the time may be right. If you’re willing to go with me. My family doesn’t need me anymore. Besides, I still love you and I always will,” he replied to her, looking at her.

        She gave him a smile.

“Of course. I’d go anywhere with you.”

        He smiled back.

A moment later, they were kissing.

The Hollow's Downfall

It was a dismal night, as Elijah stood outside on the porch in the bayou, watching for any danger, knowing the Hollow was still out there somewhere. Hayley was inside in bed. When Elijah entered the room, he’d chosen to stay in in the cabin, he sensed a presence and scanned the room. When he did, he saw someone in the dressing mirror.

“Katerina?” he questioned, shocked, not expecting to see her. Nor did he know that she was dead until now. His heart sunk, realizing she was a ghost and dead, and he knew that if he was seeing her, she was asking him for his help, the only way she could as a ghost.

After she’d gotten his attention, she disappeared from his sight, having made it clear that she needed help and she wasn’t happy that he’d moved on. She stayed in the room though, watching him.

“I’m sorry, Katerina,” was all he could find to say.

Her heart sunk, hating seeing his look after finding out that she was dead.

“Elijah,” was all she could say. She didn’t know if he could feel it or not, but she rested a hand on his arm. There wasn’t much they could say whether she was alive or not.

He looked at his arm, feeling like she’d touched him. Then the feeling was gone.

Katherine left and soon appeared at the place that the others were staying at. When she ventured around the house, she realized that Klaus had indeed had a child with Hayley, just as she’d heard before she’d died.

Katherine stood in the living room, watching Klaus and Hope share their artistic abilities with one another. As she did, she couldn’t help but smile. Even if he had ruined her life for 500 years, he deserved happiness, just like she deserved it. Seeing them together, she realized that the child had changed Klaus, just as being reunited with Nadia had done for her, before she’d had to watch Nadia die.

When she approached, she was silent until she finally sat down across the table from Hope, so now she was sitting with Klaus to her right. She wasn’t afraid of him. She’d forgiven him on her deathbed. Besides, there wasn’t much he could do to hurt her while she was a ghost.

Hope stopped what she was doing. Being half witch, she could see her, but she didn’t know who she was or what she was. When she looked at Katherine, which Klaus couldn’t see, he had enough experience to know that his daughter saw a ghost.

“Who are you?” Hope questioned her.

“I’m an old friend of the family. You may not understand this, but your Uncle Elijah and I were together off and on for quite a long time. Your dad and I don’t get along very well, though. My name is Katherine. I need some help in coming back to life, which I need to convince your Aunt Freya to do for me, but it’s going to take some convincing from your Uncle Elijah. I already came to Elijah, so he’s on his way here. I’m just here waiting for Elijah to come over,” Katherine explained, as simply as she could to the little girl. She didn’t know how much the girl knew about her family, so she kept the vampire stuff out of the equation.

“Who’s here, Sweetheart?” Klaus asked calmly, though he was suspicious. Why would a ghost be showing him or herself to his daughter?

        “Someone named Katherine,” Hope replied.

“Well, well, Katerina. I wouldn’t put it passed you to haunt me. What are you doing here?” Klaus said, though he knew he wouldn’t be able to hear her.

Katherine used a crayon and blank paper to write her response to him.

Hello, Klaus. I’m not here to haunt you. Quite the opposite. I’ve shown myself to Elijah, so now he knows I’m dead. He’s coming over so he can get your dear sister to bring me back to life. I don’t hold a grudge against you. Even if I did, I wouldn’t do anything to harm you. You have a daughter to look after. I once had one too, but unlike me, you’ll be able to raise her without being afraid of what your father will do. Nadia was illegitimate so my father tore her from my arms and banished me. We were reunited before I died, but I was too afraid of your answer or what you would do at the time, to ask you to cure Nadia when I found out that Tyler bit her. That, and she just wanted me to be happy, so I want to try and do what she wished me to do.

After reading it, he looked at the empty chair he figured she was probably still sitting in.

“I’m sorry, Katerina. If I would have known, I would have saved her,” he told her.

Elijah entered the house and called for Freya, as he entered the living room. No matter what, he was going to bring Katerina back to life. It had to be done. He wouldn’t just let her spend an eternity in whatever limbo she was in, since he knew it wasn’t the Other Side, because the Other Side was gone. It had to be something else for her to be able to reach out after who knew how long. He didn’t know how long she’d been dead. He cared for Hayley, yes, but Katerina would always be the one for him. He knew now that he’d been wrong to just abandon her. Somewhere between the time he’d left and now, she’d gotten herself killed. He couldn’t stand the thought or sight of her dead. She had to come back. She just had to.

Freya entered the living room where most of her family was, as well as a ghost she didn’t know, were in.

        “What is it?”

“I need you to bring Katerina back to life,” Elijah told her.

Katherine got up and walked over to Elijah and Freya who stood by each other.

“He means me. My name is Katherine, but Elijah and Klaus call me by my human name. I know you don’t know much about your family’s past, but Elijah and I have always had a thing. It’s just always been difficult since Elijah always chooses Klaus over me. I guess things have changed, since he’s choosing to bring me back to life, rather than do other things.”

Freya sighed. She’d heard of Katherine, but hadn’t known that she and Elijah had history together, or that Klaus had anything to do with Katherine.

“Okay, fine.” She looked at Elijah. “I’ll bring her back.”

        “Thank you, sister,” Elijah replied.

An hour later, Katherine was alive and fed and clothed and human. She was sitting on the couch, drinking a shot glass of bourbon. She’d already informed Elijah on what he’d missed, but though Elijah was mad that Klaus hadn’t told him that she’d been dying, he decided to settle his feud with Klaus until they didn’t have anything to worry about.

“Now that I’m alive, I’m kind of in your debt. Plus, I know about what’s been happening in New Orleans. I’m going to help take down The Hollow. I’ve never encountered it, but I’ve heard of it and I’ve known people that have encountered it. I also know its direct source of power and now that it’s awake, it needs someone with power to connect with. Last time you both saw me, I didn’t have any kind of magic, but when my long-lost daughter, Nadia, protected me from Silas and I found out who she really was, she told me that I’m descended from Travelers. I have magic,” she informed them.

“Why would you want to take down The Hollow?” Klaus questioned, suspicious.

“Because the Hollow can destroy everything and everyone if it wants to. It would probably take a few days and then New Orleans would cease to have anyone alive in it, once The Hollow has a full foothold into this world. It demands sacrifice. I’m going to put a stop to it permanently.”

“You don’t have to do it alone,” Elijah reminded her. He’d already seen her dead once. He didn’t want to lose her again.

        She looked at him.

“Well, I have to. I know it has already gone after Klaus and Marcel. I won’t let it go after you or anyone else. I’ll survive. Besides, if I need some extra power, Freya can help me. Besides, after all of this is over with, I should probably leave. There’s no room for me here when you’ve clearly moved on to Hayley. I’m happy for you if you’re happy, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.”

She finished the shot glass of bourbon and got to her feet.

That night, she stood in the middle of the house with Freya, both doing a spell.

Soon enough, it was destroyed for good.

Later that night, Katherine sat in a chair on the porch, looking into the distance.

Elijah walked out of the house and went to sit next to her.

“You’re right, Katerina. You don’t exactly belong here, but neither do I. Klaus doesn’t need me anymore. He’s got Hope. You’re also right that I do care for Hayley, but you know as well as I that you’ve always been the one, no matter who I love in the present century.”

She looked at him. “If I’m the one, then why leave me for Klaus so many times? You could’ve stayed all those years ago. After getting to know Nadia though, I partly understand. Family is everything. We just don’t get the luxury of choosing who our family is. So, does this mean you and I are going away together?”

“Well, it’s only fair we leave. Hayley can’t exactly come with me when she has Hope and Klaus. Besides, we’re long overdue for a few trips or more of our own. What do you say we go on our own adventure or two,” he said, that last one almost quoting what she’d pleaded with him to do all those years ago, before he’d walked away for the final time.

After saying goodbye to everyone, they left. So, in the end, they got back together and finally got a life of their own.
