You Raise Me Up (Kalijah)

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary

When troubles come and my heart burdened be

And I am still and wait here in the silence

Until you come, and sit awhile with me

It was a nebulous night, as a human Katherine lay on a road in a desolate area, on her back. She’d just appeared after dealing with Kai for so long in the prison world, she’d finally gotten the ascendant together and gotten out of there without Kai being able to tag along with her. Now she found herself in a desolate area of what looked to be New Orleans. She knew she should probably leave town or at least get somewhere safe, but she couldn’t. She’d lost a lot of blood and she knew it wasn’t a good thing to try going anywhere after losing a lot of blood, and when someone had shot you with an arrow and there was a dagger in your thigh artery, which was the only thing keeping you from bleeding out. That was why she didn’t go anywhere. That, and because she was so tired of running and tired because of the blood loss. She could only hope that someone with a good heart would find her before it was too late.

You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas

I am strong, when I am on your shoulders

You raise me up, to more than I can be

After everything that had happened between his family, himself, and Marcel, and since there was nothing here for him anymore, he was on his way to heading out of town but stopped when he smelled human blood. It wasn’t just any human though. He could smell Katerina. After everything had turned out well enough, Klaus had finally told Elijah what had happened to Katerina a few years ago, so Elijah was surprised that Katerina was alive and human, yet again. She’d died a human though, so he guessed it shouldn’t be too surprising. Once he smelled the human scent of Katerina as well as blood, he followed the scents, knowing that this meant that she was injured. If she needed help, no matter what, he wouldn’t leave her to die. He’d hate for anything to happen to her, though according to his brother, it was a little too late for that.

As soon as he saw her in the road, he blurred to her side and knelt beside her. He could tell that she’d lost a lot of blood. Seeing an arrow in her lower stomach, he pulled it out and tossed it to the ground. He didn’t dare feed her his blood, though he knew she was in bad condition. He knew that last time she’d been human, she couldn’t digest vampire blood. He didn’t have much of a choice. He had to get back home so Freya could heal her, since there weren’t any working hospitals in New Orleans, thanks to Mikael back in the day. Seeing the ascendant by her, he knew she’d come from a prison world, which he knew explained how she was alive and who had done this to her. He knew her well enough to know that she wouldn’t normally harm herself on purpose.

He rested a hand on the side of her face.

        “Can you hear me, Katerina?”

After a few minutes of nothing, he took his hand away.

He slid an arm under her, pulling her into his arms, and his other one under her legs. He then got to his feet and blurred home with her in his arms.

“Stay with me, Katerina,” he pleaded.

        Please, don’t leave me.

He didn’t want to lose her. He couldn’t bear the thought of never seeing her again.

After Elijah had summarized of who she was, Freya agreed to save her life.

As she layed on the table in the same room as Freya had used to make the ultimate weapon against Marcel, she was pale from her injuries and blood loss, as Freya used her magic to heal her, in order to try and save her life.

Elijah stood by her silently, a hand on the side of her face. Though he didn’t show it, he was afraid that she may not make it. She’d fought for her life for 500 years. How many times could she continue fighting, before she gave up? He’d left her when she’d pleaded for him to stay, leaving her to fend for herself, only for her to end up dead. After he’d left, she’d been completely on her own, and he’d had no knowledge of it. If he could do things over, he’d do things differently. He’d stay if he could change the past. He couldn’t change the past, though. He could only try and make things better.

I am strong, when I am on your shoulders

You raise me up, to more than I can be

You raise me up

To more than I

Can be…

After she got her healed, Elijah left New Orleans with her, her in the passenger seat and him driving. He wasn’t going to be staying in New Orleans. He hadn’t planned on being there forever when he’d first gone to go help Klaus. Besides, he had to keep Katerina safe from any enemies that came their way, whether they were after himself or her. He wasn’t going to leave her to the mercy or no mercy of New Orleans. Even though he’d left, he still loved her, and he always would no matter what.

About a month later, they had rekindled their relationship and started over, this time without Klaus to intervene.
